Qatar Booking - Unable to View on Other Airline Websites

Hi All

Thought I would check with the brains trust for a slightly strange occurrence.

Booked a flight for my parents with QR for July - September next year ex-KUL (first leg is MH operated but booked as a QR codeshare). Flights were booked directly with QR - they have issued a PNR and ticket number (157 ticket stock) and it is showing up on the QR MMB as "Confirmed". It is also showing up on the CheckMyTrip app.

However, I am unable to retrieve the booking on any other airline websites (including MH, CX and RJ) - they are coming back with errors such as "the system is unable to retrieve this trip" and "we are unable to find this confirmation number".

I'm not sure if this could mean the flights haven't been ticketed properly and we should contact QR, or if it may be because there is a codeshare flight involved or if it's just too far out at this stage - over 11 months away. Would appreciate any comments / advice.

QR locked down their system a while back (maybe ~6 mths ago). I posted something here at the time.

QR bookings with a QFF number attached used to appear in the QF app (not that you could anything with them, but still reassuring to see them associated with your FF# noting the spate of fraud occurring with QR and dodgy VFF accounts.

Anyway, I noticed that some future bookings just dropped out of the QF app and I went to check that my bookings were ok. About the same time QR introduced 2FA for managing bookings ie to even view a QR booking on the QR website requires a OTP sent by text and email. I can only assume that’s the reason we can’t view those bookings on rj.com etc.

One of my trips had a codeshare flight on IB. Prior to the change, I could only do seat selection on Iberia.com. Even that got locked out for a few weeks!

Thanks! Good to hear that it's not a booking issue but slightly annoying all the same.

QR should be the source of truth on this. My understanding is that they have tightened up their security around who can 'read' their bookings
So fo example, you try to access under a Qantas context, you won't be able to read the booking.

Yes, however the app and website can be a bit fickle - verging on cough.

I've tested all the usual suspects and they've all been shutout since the OTP implementation.

As per my earlier comment, they used to appear in My Trips on the QF app but even then, you couldn't even view them. Now they don't even appear anymore.

@Chrizztofa Do note that if you try and open their booking they (or whoever is the primary POC) will get an text and email with the OTP.

More airlines probably should do this to help peeps pilfering points from bookings (looking at VA there).

Mind you, the days of using rj.com to do seat selection for airlines that don't provide that function are probably numbered....

Fortunately I was on the phone with my parents at the time, so was able to obtain the OTP when trying to check if the flight was confirmed on the QR site.

They're booked on a Business Classic fare which doesn't allow free seat selection. As the first leg is MH-operated the seat map didn't even come up for that flight so I'm not sure they can select a seat even if they wanted to (that's why I was trying to access the booking on the MH site in the first place!)

I agree with your sentiments regarding OTP - it's so commonplace now anyway.

Is there a seperate PNR for MH? If so, that should open on the MH website / app but you probably still can’t select seats based on the QR fare.

As mentioned above, I had an IB codeshare - pretty sure it had a seperate PNR (can’t recall how I obtained it) but I needed that to select seats.

Not to my knowledge as the only PNR I've received is from QR.

CheckMyTrip only has that PNR as well (although since I'm adding it to the app that doesn't preclude the existence of a separate PNR for MH).
