I am flying from Amman to Doha on Qatar in Feb 2023 Regional First Class. We layover in Doha for 7 hours before flying to Bangkok on Qatar Business Class.
The regional First Class flight is a fully paid fare direct to Qatar.
The flight From Doha to BKK is a Qantas classic rewards flight on Qatar. My question is, because we are flying into Doha on First class, can we use the First class lounge for the layover or will we have to access the business class lounge prior to the onward flight ? It's a long shot I know, any advice would be appreciated

My understanding is yes and I intend to do that CAI-xDOH (regional First) - MEL (Business) in about a month (both legs paid). I'll report how I go!

Is Qatar unusual in allowing access to First even though the next flight being taken is Business?

I was in Doha this morning and they have someone at the bottom of the escalator that you have to convince you have access before you even get upstairs. My Qatar platinum was the magic wand

The LH F terminals are similar
CX will take highest class during the trip for own metal
Not sure about others

We did Athens- Doha in J, with a 7 hour stopover, then J ( which is regional first class) to Muscat.
We were invited to use the first lounge.
On return Muscat-Doha in F, then to Bankgok in J, we were pointed to the business lounge. We were told it was the class you were about to fly that gave you entry.
Hopefully this has changed.

What are the benefits flying business class during 15 hour stopover in Doha ? Can you stay in the business lounge the whole time? Is there a place to sleep? I expect to do the 3 hour free bus tour during the day..Also should I buy business class upfront or do Qatar offer last minute economy to business upgrade offers when they are not full? Will be flying October..

9:20 pm Adelaide (ADL)
4:40 am Doha Hamad Intl (DOH) 15h 20m•Change planes in Doha (DOH)
8:00 pmDoha Hamad Intl (DOH)
3:25 am Almaty (ALA)

We thought we would do the free bus tour when we had a similar time there. On arrival we got to the bus tour desk. There was a big queue with no priority line. We finally got to the desk and were told we could get seats in about 12 hours. With the 3 hour tour, we would have missed our connection.
But, is your DOH-ALA flight regional business class? We were booked in J to MCT, but like lots of USA travel J is first class.
If this is on your ticket, you should be able to access the Qatar first lounge. This does have amazing sleeping rooms.

The Al-Mourjan Business Class lounge in Doha, which is available for all Qatar Business passengers except those on "lite" fares, has sleep rooms which can be used for up to six hours at a time.

There's also a "Sleep N Fly Sleep Lounge" which has sleep pods which can be booked for up to three hours. It's accessible via Priority Pass.

The links in Human's post give the best idea of the lounge - yes, you could stay the entire time, and if you had to stay airside the whole time, DOH is one of the better airports to do so, especially with the recent extension, additional J lounges and the 'garden out in the extended C pier. But much better to go landside!

I did the bus tour, years ago but it sounds like it might be tougher to do now, but you can only try.

I did ADL-DOH recently and if interested, can see it in my TR here Dipping my toe back in the Nile DOH was very busy when I arrived a bit after 4am, so suggest you go straight to the showers on arrival.

I'm not aware of last minute upgrade offers to J, and if they were, they probably wouldn't come with lounge access in DOH.

Check if you can get 'Transit accommodation'. https://www.qatarairways.com/en-au/...rt/transit-accommodation.html?iid=ALL53419810 They may or may not grant for the particular routing you have, but again, worth an enquiry.

EDIT: There are two airside hotels, too. The original Oryx, which is very expensive, and a new one, cheaper. See here Hamad International Airport Newly Launches the ‘Oryx Garden Hotel’, the Second Airport Hotel in the Terminal | Hamad International Airport.

I believe the Almaty route isn't 'regional business = first', unfortunately; an A320, too.

Me again, just wondering if anyone had any further advice ? I now note that the Aircraft to BKK is now a 777 not a 380, so no first class available. As we are flying from Amman to Doha in first would that strengthen our case to get into the Doha first class lounge for our layover of 7 hours ?

Sorry, I reported experience in a couple of other threads, but not here. Answer is yes - arriving on QR and departing J does give you Al Safwa access - but of course they can change their minds at any time!

You can see some of the facilities here. This links to my return visit; earlier in the TR there is my onwards visit, which was shorter. For your stop-over, make a bee-line for the sleeping rooms.

Just to update all, completed my trip last week and was admitted to the first class lounge both ways, no problem at all.

I'm flying into DOH in F and then connecting to Y as J is booked out on connecting flight. It's going to hurt!

Do you think they'll let me into Al Safwa First Class Lounge?

I know F to J is fine, but not sure about F to Y!

I am going to join the ranks of hypocrites. I had vowed not to use ME airlines but will be flying EK in just over a week.
I have also been looking at future trips and I found some really good QR redemptions on my AA account. As both of us have high 6 figure AA miles will be taking Advantage ( pun intended ) of those chances. Can afford several QR F redemptions.

I guarantee you and mrs.drron will enjoy coming over to the dark side :) although, at this minute I've just discovered QR aren't immune from silliness.

On an upcoming redemption (using QR avios) , I just got this notice of change:

The original time isn't the original time. I checked my orig booking and orig time was about 7 hrs earlier (ie 1:30am). So happy to click the button for accept - and new e-ticket arrived in about a minute.
