QF A380 back in service from January 11

I don't know what you're referring to, but QF has stated this publicly.

Instead, the airline tells Executive Traveller that its A380 First suites are now being offered as a “complimentary upgrades for top-tier frequent flyers” travelling in business class.

Yes that is correct (and great news!) but we don't post links to that blog on here is the point ;) :)

I cannot fathom an acceptable reason why Qantas would bring back the unrefurbished plane - and with no entertainment...
It had just gone through an overhaul and I assume substantial check in Dresden. Remember return to service was brought forward.

I suspect they might just stick to FMS fed by GPS and IRS. Those things you mention are alien to the average pilot.
I was just listening to Fitzsimons book on Capt Cook the other week. A lot of detail on navigation in the 1780s...

I guess there are a few differences ... The Endeavour was not traveling in three dimensions at 500 knotts, and relied 100% on visual approach for arrivals.

But their navigation process was amazing accurate and reliable under the circumstances.

Yes, of course a couple of differences.

The thought process was all about the amazing accuracy and reliability for the technology back then. Especially considering the method for determining longitude was in relative infancy (and very complex) at the time of the first voyage.
Sorry for getting sidetracked from the comment about not knowing how they (the pilots) found their way without the in flight map...

Looks like the 380 that was meant to fly Tuesday 18 has been subbed out for a 787.

Any chance it relates to the entertainment fix?

Yeah I also noticed that today. Hopefully they are fixing the entertainment system or that plane breaks so they have to use one with refurbished seating :D

As there's only two in service, if it breaks, then the service will either go to a 787 or be cancelled.

Note I have moved recent posts relating to USA FAA's concerns over 5G interference with Radio Altimeters to the existing thread that is specific o that topic. Please follow this link to view or continue that discussion:

Good to hear. My A380 pilot pal is back in Sydney after a round-Australia family trip. Training starting in a couple of weeks. At one point in the pandemic he had been told he could expect be off until Autumn 2023

Just got off QF12 this morning. Still no inflight entertainment and they couldn’t even get the DVDs playing on loop to work.

A number of recline functions in my partner’s J seat didn’t work properly and when we informed the FA, she held up a large chunk of plastic which she said just fell off another seat. Seems like there are a couple of F and J seats currently out of action too.

It’s great that QF has gotten a 380 back up in the air but from a customer perspective, my experience has made me question whether VH-OQB was ready to be put into service at this stage.

You joking!! I cannot believe Qantas is flying a long-haul aircraft with no working entertainment system!! I m flying on this plane this coming Sunday. Really hope there is a last minute plane change!

I'm Flying QF11 on Tuesday and this no IFE is a joke. Bumped from a 787 to an unrenovated A380 with a broken IFE is definitely "not as advertised" when booking the seat. They need to use the other A380 parked in Sydney or the 787. In addition, I got bumped off a connecting flight as it was oversold for Business Class. They need to get their stuff together, this is a bad reputational hit for loyal Qantas Flyers. Talk about a "Flagship" Service.
