QF A380 back in service from January 11

QF confirmed to David Flynn and AusBT that the F cabin will be used for ‘higher tiered status members’ which he interpreted as WP and P1.

It is not available to pre select, rather when it comes under airport control.
I understand, but it may be that if these seats are not needed due to low sales then Qantas may decide not to operate the cabin and save $$$ ... full stop.

If that happens then it can become "defacto" or unofficial crew rest

Serfty - would they save money not operating that cabin, even if it was used to provide J service?

Crew numbers would be the same no?

Initial suggestion was that the aircraft was going to be refurbed in SYD first, but then they moved all the flights forward
 
Yes, the crew numbers would be 20, which is what happens when F is used as J (like when the 380 did HKG, but F was sold as J).

The F cabin will be full of passengers.
Out of interest Milehighclub do you know how many crew QF had in the 1980s/1990s on the 747s?

I'm surprised its only 20 cabin crew on the 380!

It was the aircraft that was out of hibernation, having whatever checks it was having.

I also find this embarrassing for Qantas and, if this A380 continues operating without getting the refurb together with refurbed A380s, will lead to chaos and frustrations with the seat assignments, particularly in J, when you will never know which type of A380 you get.

Such a poor decision to bring this aircraft back and a reason for me not to book A380 flights for now as I highly value direct aisles access when I fly J, so I will stick with Qatar to Europe for the time being (and Qatar being often significantly cheaper in J).
 
Looks like my Feb US trip will be via LAX, an anoying airport, just for the chance to get an F seat.

I'm not sure I understand the logic here. The Qantas A380 is being used for USA, not Europe... You probably don't have to worry about getting a Qantas A380 to europe?

I'm not sure I understand the logic here. The Qantas A380 is being used for USA, not Europe... You probably don't have to worry about getting a Qantas A380 to europe?
The current planning is for Qantas to use A380s to LHR from 19 June and it will likely be a messy situation where on some days you will get a refurbished plane and on other days the non-refurbished A380, therefore creating chaos with the seat reservations, particularly in J. As I know Qantas, it will be a last-minute decision if a refurbished plane or the unrefurbished plane will be used and therefore you will newer know if you get the decedes-old business class or the new one. You will only be able to calculate your chances based on the number of A380s in service.

Maybe not the Squid game, but there's a bit of chance opportunity currently.

With the years of the A388 configuration having upper deck economy, row 36 was unique with 36D not being an aisle seat. It has a wall to the left and egress is by way of the E and F seats.

In 2019 36D and 36E were generally blocked from the outset and would be the last allocated, generally only if the cabin was full. Also, upper deck seating was only available for preallocation by statused PAX.

I see today these seats are no longer blocked with row 36 seating available to all (JK as well) including non status if they wish to pay.
