QF A380 to DFW; QF9/10 retiming

Some might call it satisfying the needs of non-SYD-based passengers (i.e. those based in BNE and other connecting pax who would prefer to avoid the scrum that is SYD).

Well let's see, the connection in BNE from Dom to Int and vv is a pain in the **s but I guess the "world class" shopping and lounges, especially the F lounge, totally worth the hassle... Wait, it's actually cough, like everything else in that airport!

There is if it comes on the expense of MOST pax who prefer newer and better planes and don't want to connect via BNE.
Maybe all international flights should depart from MEL because it's more convenient to ME?
But I live in the real world and understand that compromises have to me made for the benefits of most people.

So all international flights will depart from MEL. Nothing wrong with that.

I dont understand the big deal some people make about connecting. It is a few hours extra. I know it is tiring. You forget about it after a day or 2. It is not like anyone is forcing you to fly JQ.

Maybe when QF eventually gets the 787-9 BNE-DFW-BNE could be a goer

You are being very hopeful. Would passenger numbers justify it?

Most international flights should depart from where most people live, at the moment it's SYD. If (and when) one day MEL will become the biggest city then it should also be the major hub for QF.
Edit: it will probably never happen because SYD will always be the major destination for tourists.

SYD and MEL are very close now. Is is close though in terms of business passengers?

Not sure about business travel but SYD is the major tourist destination so flights to more leisure orientated places like BKK, NRT, JNB, NAN etc. should always depart from there.
It also make sense to operate the A380 to DFW to attract more Americans.

A lot of potential tourists think Australia = Sydney.

As well as a lot of tourists wondering why the plane is so large and has two decks...

Happy wandering

Does anyone know how QF93/94 MEL-LAX-MEL will be affected by the QF9/10 retiming? As it stands, QF10 arrives in MEL early in the morning to form the QF93, and the arriving QF94 forms the QF9 later in the afternoon. With the retiming, I'm going to assume that the QF10 will turn around following its evening arrival as the QF9, with 2 hours on the ground in MEL (otherwise, any benefit of increased aircraft utilisation would be negated).

But where does that leave QF93/94? With the current schedules, the time between QF94 arriving and QF93 departing is just 50 minutes to 1 hour depending on the day. But if QF94 left earlier or QF93 arrived later that would be cutting an already tight connection time to QF107/108 even finer.

Any ideas as to what Qantas will do? I don't see a 50 minute turnover time for the A380 working.

I wonder if QF will simply reschedule QF94 to leave LAX at 22:00 instead of 23:30. What is the current turnaround time for the UA flight in MEL?

Edit: I just checked, UA flight arrives at 9:45 and leaves at 11:20. So I guess 1h35 is enough.

UA's flight is using a 789 , which i think would be much easier to turnaround as opposed to a 388. Im guessing there would be a minimum TAT of 2 hours for a 388, and as you have suggested the only solution i can see would be a retiming of QF94 to depart LAX earlier as there is now longer an early morning 388 arrival other the QF94 to make QF93

Last time I flew QF94 it took 35 min to exit the plane after parking at the gate...the Captain was keeping us updated every 5 min to tell us that he wasn't sure why only the upper deck had been connected to the jet bridge:shock:. In the end we all had to exit from the upper deck. So maybe QF needs more time than other airlines to turnaround
