Boarding is 2225, spa appointments are 20 minutes
I think official closing will be 2230

Given QF9 is a 2255 departure at the moment - I would've thought boarding would be called more than just 30 minutes before departure?

It seems QF8 DFW-SYD is still on a fairly significant load restriction. The below final figures are from 01/01/2015's QF8 at flight close:

That's subject to winds, did you check them?
I agree with markis10 that the a/c can carry significantly more load than the example given. The load will vary with wind but the likely hood of having a 78kt headwind* forecast for the entire journey would be low IMHO.

*Using jb747s figures

There is a large payload still - even Joyce himself said the difference between the 747 and 380 operating the route was only 10% of seats...........considering the difference in a full flight is over 100 seats, the payload still plays a big role.

The flight took nearly an hour longer than the scheduled block time, without any holding on approach to SYD... I would suspect there were some notable headwinds...

Or she went an extra 700km, which in fact was the case.

Yesterday's QF8 (arriving 3/1/15) took 17 hours, 13 minutes... Friday's QF7 had a gas n go through LAX due weather in DFW and alternate Houston.

QF7 flew over us at Watson Bay Hotel (3.26pm)
Very nice to see the big bird (A380) over the harbour!
