QF Booking Class?

FWIW, I've heard that the reason Qantas does not show the booking class on its website is not because it doesn't want passengers to know it - but because it thinks passengers are not interested and that it might unnecessarily confuse them.

If you think this is incorrect (as I do), you may wish to get in touch with QF and explain why you are interested in seeing the booking class prior to making a booking...

More likely QF would prefer that partner airline frequent flyer members who book QF flights get fare codes which cost QF the least amount of money (points etc). Or stated slightly differently, QF doesn't care that non-QFF flyers are interested. Normally, for the purposes of crediting to the QF program, the fare code within the category wouldn't matter (since a specific fare class, eg E class, will likely have several price levels depending on among other things - the date).

Another interesting question relating to the website would be - when it is stated that xx_ seats are left, does that pertain to the actual fare class (ie price level) or to the fare category (discount economy)?

Cynically wandering

I beleive it is price level but that does generally rate to fare bucket.

E fares are a source of chagrin to AAdvantage members as it does not earn with that program.

I seem to recall there are other (earning for AA members) fares in the deep discount fare group...
Which is why I made the previous comment

Just wandering

Ok, I've made some rough and ready tweaks, including a 3 second delay. So when you hit the review page, just wait a little. The pop up should appear, then after clicking OK, the classes should populate. PM any comments please.

Don't be so cynical. I'm a web developer, so I can see that if there's no need to include it in the page then it won't get included. And there's no need because of priorities - lets face it, points junkies that rely on the booking classes are in the extreme minority. If the feature request would even go through to the team, it would just get deprioritized to make way for features and (genuine) enhancements that more people can use.
Points junkies? Lovely. It's not that difficult to provide a button that highlights the booking class along with fare rules. Actually that would be very easy to do.

Qantas has always shown the fare class. All you need to do is select the flights you want then at the "check page" right click the page and "view source" and then ctrl f "fareclass" and you will see the fare class. The first letter is always the fare class. EG. 'HFNAU' the fare class is H.

I think cynicism is perfectly warranted where Qantas and its web site is concerned. If people saw the fare classes, they might ask 'gee what does that mean?' and then work out the bad news about earn on the discount fare classes. And if you don't think that the general flying public don't care about point earning, Qantas Loyalty may disagree - its one of the major profit drivers of the company.

The last major 'enhancement' the developers/management came up with for QF website was acres of white space, which has no use at all except to make it easier for kiddies to comprehend the site and for everyone to exercise their scrolling finger. After a previous change to the site, they didn't seem to prioritise having the 'book business' button working ;).

I wouldn't call that 'showing' so much as 'available to view' if you know some tricks and codes and want to find out AFTER you have selected the flights. :)

Yeah, but this....

Agreed.

Look, all it comes down to is priorities and convincing the higher-ups that feature x and 'more important' to work on than feature y. With a broken 'book business', its hard to prioritise displaying a fare class that'll just confuse most people.

What I would suggest is when giving feedback, think about the exact need that you have. Why do you want fare codes? Can Qantas add features to the booking portal to satisfy those, for a larger range of people? I think they've already made a start on this by showing the upgrade eligibility and SC/points earn for domestic bookings in the listings. I would expect more to come, esp. when the new international booking portal gets rolled out.

I suggest it may be enlightening to have a look at how old this thread is - then double that - That will give you an idea of the time I have been interested in fare buckets.

In that time Qantas' online engine has never readily shown these.

Not wanting to confuse pax is what I heard too. But I don't think it will necessarily confuse pax if they just pop it in the "check" page

Hi serfty. GreaseMonkey is not yet compatible with the new Firefox way of doing add-ons and support for legacy add-ons will soon be dropped. I was looking at using TamperMonkey instead.... does your script work with TM?

I use bith grease and tamper monkey. Howver, the script is not working that well with the recent changes.

Thanks, good to know it works with TM. Silly question then, how do install the script into TM?

Hi Serty. I used your script from post #105. It doesn't seem to work with the current QF booking pages. Has the current booking page outdated the script?
Also, viewing the source of the page, I can't see var mileage.
Any advice to see the fare class?

I did find that clicking on the full fare rules at the bottom of the selected fare will say if the ticket is upgradable.

The current version does not work.

Look in the source of the "Flight Bookings - Review" page¹ for entries "rdb":"x" where 'x' will represent the booking fare bucket for the segment.

¹ The one after you select the flights.
