Apparently there is a no-fly zone over the building in Erding (near Munich) that houses the mainframe.

Very very hard to plan for a system outage as there as so many different ways for things to not work. To have a back-up system can also be redundent as you cannot use this system if there is a major power outage or network problems.

... And apparently it's down again in Perth due to a power issue over night.

I flew per to bne on Sunday, and when I got I the airport, the checkin area was almost out the door with people. When I tried to use the self check in I got a printed receipt which said to to the check in counter. Since I only had carry on bags, I went through security and checked in at the Qantas service desk upstairs. I found out at that time that in addition to the system outage, the baggage conveyor at per was broken.

Flight home yesterday from bne was delayed departing by nearly an hour due to a mechanical issue with the air conditioning (A330), although we arrived back in per only 20 minutes later than scheduled.

Is it just me, or have Qantas been impacted by a few of these issues lately? The last trip to Brisbane, we were stuck on the tarmack for half an hour because they couldn't get the aerobridge out. Not Qantas's fault I know, but still.

That is PER for you...

I was impacted by this last Sunday. I checked in at the ADL QP at about 13:30. I was told that the sysyem was VERY slow at the moment. It took at least 3 minutes to spit out my Y boarding pass. To my horror, the system had spat out a J BP!

I hope they have the same issues later today :p
