... were you short when you were complemented or kept at SG.
Not talking WP/P1, just SG...
Previously, got up to 885 (first year), so this year up to Jul 16, will need just 600 to keep SG.
Should I play the game (be 5/10/15 SC under 600) or should I make an effort to fly to ensure to get above 600, seeing its just my 2nd SG.
Have 310 SC, have another 100 SC booked, will need 190 (not booked), which could be achieved by MEL - WLG (flexJ) WLG - SYD - ADL (flexJ).
I could easily fly more to make up 600, but that would mean I won't be able to play the comp roulette, ie, will they comp me or they won't.
Thanks.

I can't imagine they would comp you. 600 is a long way short.

Anecdotally, they take into account three years including your current year and your average would need to be above 600. I doubt you would be comped. If it means that much to you, take the flights and earn the SCs.

Remember, there are no hard and fast rules about comping, it is unwritten and supposedly only happens once.

I think the "quality" of status credits enters into the equation in some sense. (This is not intended as a value judgement.) I received Gold status from Qantas for a single first-class return flight. But it perhaps costs more than it would cost to earn more status credits in economy class. I also think that Qantas probably had information on the number of status credits I had flown with Emirates and Cathay Pacific and Japan Airlines. In the end it is a cheap present to someone who usually flies in First Class anyway.

Thats the plan, Abdul, for down the track.
Only fly less often, but in J trans Tasman, from Jul 17 onwards.
Aim to keep SG from Jul 16 to Jun 17.
Don't fly for work, and even for QF SG, no shadow (empty seat next to me) 100% of the time, but if I book J, at least I am assured of a wider berth, more $$$ per return tix of course, but not as expensive as keeping SG, assume dom flights, or trans Tasman assuming $ per SC earn quite expensive.
Medhead, I do realise that Aquire is for ABN holders, I do have an ABN (but no business travel, granted who in QF checks).
I already have ADL - MEL under a VA J reward seat.
Wellington is removing the trolley buses in 2017, I want to try them for the last time before they go.
WLG - SYD has an am departure, and a pm one, WLG - MEL only has a pm dep.
Have to work that immediate next day, so an am dep WLG - SYD gives me time to get a bit of sightseeing in SYD, and a bit of bumper if things go pear shaped.

A little bit difficult to understand. But I am also much in need of as wide a berth as possible. It is also better for the person sitting next to me.

Sorry, for me as I am larger (fat).
Aud$1550 MEL - WLG - SYD - ADL multi city all in J for Apr 16.
Doing the sums: 310 SC I have already flown, plus 100 SC booked not flown, plus 200 SC for one line above, 610.
At least QF has comfort seat available for purchase, NZ has it too, but low VA SC.
This is the addled way my mind works, not a lot of sense, most would summise.
Ok, that was the last for this thread from me.

I did not mean to offend, AustraliaPoochie.

When younger I flew on Japan Airlines and the cabin attendant (politely) mentioned my size. I said "Like a Sumo!", and then she looked at me very earnestly and said "Yes, but they have more muscles".

I gave her 10/10 on the survey card.

AP your style is really confusing to understand but I think the gist of what you're asking is:

- having attained Gold with 885 SC you are wondering if you'd get a comp to Gold if you are at 195 SC short of 600 for this year ?

My answer is: Probably not.

As with most things in life, if you want it, you should pay for it - ie get the SC's or be content with Silver. You *might* get Gold again, though I highly doubt it at just over 400 SC's but I suppose you can never say never.

really though when you include information that is not relevant, such as having a VA reward seat booked and so on, it really confuses the issue. Can you please try and be more succinct in future? thank you :)

No offence taken.
But will definitely be buying those flights (200 SC) to make up 610 SC all up by 31 Jul 16.

If it's only your second year of SG and you value your lounge access then I'd definitely be flying extra to retain the level. However, if it was your third year, I would point to anecdotal evidence that they will take the average over 3 years and comp you a year (provided you've made the 4 squiggles). However, I don't believe it's a hard and fast rule so I wouldn't want to mislead you by saying it'll definitely happen after your third year.

I was recently comped Platinum having flown well under the required amount, but having an average over 3 years of 1500+ SC.

I have been SG for the last 7 years, with 650-750SC average each year. I only clocked up 55SC last year - suffice it to say, I'm now a PS ;)

Ta, Daniel.
Edit: Its hard, though, 2nd guessing QF. Will they comp me/won't they comp me?
Would be nice if the QF system got better, say if a QF FF member is 50 off SG requal of 600, say, get to 550, that they get to retain SG.
When some do get to retain, with so much of a difference, between 340 and 600, and I am Daniel, with 6 to 7 years of SG, then not flying that much, and down to PS.
In comparison to PuppySparks.
As mentioned, at 310 SC under my belt, and 100 SC booked, ...
Streuth, maybe I am expecting too much.

Soft landing from WP to SG last year. I think I had 2800sc when I hit WP, then minimal flying since.

Ok. Thats good of them then. But I think the poochie is out of luck based on longevity of loyalty.

Made a decision, I will be doing a comfort seat whY domestic booking ADL - PER and J back mid Jul.
310 QF SC booked and flown, 100 more booked, will be flown by Jun 16, will book one way J MEL - WLG (80 QF SC), maybe comfort seat whY WLG - SYD - ADL (depends on $) (60 QF SC) equals 550 QF SC, then mid Jul, doing comfort seat whY and J back, will put me over 600 QF SC at 640 QF SC.
My payments from my subcontract and other income is in dribs and drabs.
Thanks everyone, if QF surprises me in the mean time and I get the comp before the end of Jul, I will report on here.

Good luck with the flights Pooch -I have a nasty feeling I will be soft landing from SG to PS at the end of March . Been SG for many years but this year there has been less flying than usual and will not be able to make up the 100 SC needed in the time. Oh well, c'est la vie!
