QF Double Status Credit Promos - I am not 100% sure I follow the logic anymore...

Now the flying windows for all global DSC offers have closed. Will be interesting to see when the next offer is.

If an offer doesn’t come I might need to look at booking a classic reward rather than a revenue seat.

I guess we will see..... If DSC’s are truly a thing of the past, it will impact my booking behaviour - I currently requal WP (somewhere between ‘comfortably’ and ‘just’ depending on the year), even though I fly min of one cross-country segment per week on average (low SC due to company disc economy policy). Without DSC I’ll find it hard to retain WP and will drop back to LTG. In which case, I’ll probably switch my QF / oneworld earn to BAEC, fly best fare of the day (which is often VA) and QF would lose all those bookings. Maybe QF doesn’t care? Or maybe the ‘business intelligence’ is just not quite intelligent enough?

P.s. just went back through my emails and apart from the DSC promo in Feb, I also had a targeted one in April.... From memory, I used both to book quite a few flights.

QF probably care about churning too many customers... but QF's business intelligence is not very intelligent at all.... all outsourced to terrible places

Wouldn't one consideration be that QF gained your business for you to accrue the 1200 SC by throwing you a few toasted sandwiches and glasses of champagne all while you are paying more for the privilege that you would on VA. The money is made on the flights you take, not the potential
Yeah but I stopped flying them - so they didn't get the money.
Now I am flying exclusively other OW carriers for international flights until I get my reset in December. I think this way QF actually has to PAY the other airline when I use it's lounges? Anyway, I still think QF lost this one.... 8-)

Well this is all a bit disappointing. I did 3 SC runs to and from Christchurch last year. The first to get WP status. The second two to maintain it. But that was when I was doing lots of other flying as well. Now things have changed and I'm not flying as much. I will revert to Gold status at the end of August next year. I would do extra Double SC runs at my own expense if it meant keeping WP, but otherwise it will be cheapest flight on the day... which is always Virgin and usually hundred of $ less. Loyalty comes at a price, but the reward of greater availability of reward seats just isn't worth the increased price of maintaining status with no Double SC deals.

...to be clear, this is all “if” DSC’s are done and dusted. The problem is we won’t know 100% for sure, for a bit longer I feel.

An issue with the targeted offers are that they only apply to one person where my wife and I always fly together so one of us would miss out. You have to look at the fine print on some of these offers as they can be limited especially with the class of travel you may select

Do DSCs really cause over crowding? I would have thought sale fares and double points offers are more likely to create crowds.

I think they meant overcrowding in the lounges. The fact that it is easier to get WP means that there are more WP members than "normal".

I certainly have noticed how crowded the QF Dom J lounges have become. They used to be fairly "exclusive" but they are soooooo crowded now. Plus a WP can have 2 guests.... so every person that becomes WP as a result of DSC is really potentially an extra 3 in the lounge, right?

But.... what I have noticed is that the QF F lounges are not very crowded at all (relatively speaking). Esp in MEL in the morning. When you think that there are flights to LAX, HKG, NRT all leaving around the same time.... the lounge should be much busier with OW Emerald peeps... but it isn't. I was recently flying to NRT, and on board in the J cabin I did not see a SINGLE person from the F lounge - and there were so few people in the lounge I would have remembered. When the flight boarded I was the only one that I noticed leaving the lounge.

It makes me wonder.... I wonder how many staff "mates" get snuck into the Dom J lounges? They do seem waaaayyyyyy too crowded. I know that it is harder to sneak someone into the F lounge - your name needs to be on a guest list, and that list is managed quite tightly...

Husband gets offers and then he tries to work them around points reward seats I have . We have done that twice now
Perhaps an alternative if you don't mind not being on the same plans
Husband and I are going to Paris later this year . He is travelling QF1 and I am travelling via Japan. We land in CDG within 45 mins of each other

I see your point but isn't this a problem caused by Qantas?

Domestic Qantas Club lounges are crowded but that is a problem caused by more than just DSCs. Qantas are more than happy to sell membership to any punter (without status) who has the $$.

Paying for lounge access is creating busier lounges. to WP or LTG will take considerable effort and $$ - more than just DSCs at play. If I am paying F or WP prices I want a lounge to be available.

Not sure I’ve ever seen this happening, access to any of the QF lounges seems quite closely guarded plus as I understand it QF staff on industry fares are strictly prohibited from lounge access.

Pardon my ignorance, I thought that QF only sold Qantas Club lounge access and not access to its Domestic J lounges?

Correct, you can pay for QC access but will need to have a J ticket, be WP or OWE or a guest thereof to get into the domestic J lounges.

Qantas and group staff, relatives and others are definitely banned from accessing any QF , Oneworld or other lounges when travelling on industry discount tickets.
Even if they are flying in business class or have frequent flyer status which would otherwise entitle them to lounge access.
The only circumstance in which they are permitted to access the lounge is if they are a guest of a REV PAX (revenue passenger).

Notwithstanding all said I ,rarely if at all , am time constrained with my trips .
So I wait for a sale or double status credits . Flying on regular fare isn't likely
So my status credit are accured at sale fares or DSC .

Sooo Qantas need DSC or a good sale to Europe or England cheers

I took up the DCS offer in Feb this year. Booked a couple of flights on 19 Feb (the offer came out 18 feb) Flew in June and then again in August. When the June flights had been done, the DCS’s didn’t arrive. I rang Qantas, got the Phillipines call centre and was told I hadn’t registered, when I am sure I did. I was insistent on getting the extra SC’s. After a protracted call, the call centre person said she would have it looked at. Have heard nothing, so when next flying asked at the QC and the lady there called a Qantas number and put me on the phone. They said send a screen shot of the offer and also details of the bookings, which i have done. I got an automated email reply with a reference number. Over a month has passed the second pair of flights have been completed and still no DCS’s and no response from Qantas. We are talking about two lots of 40 sc’s so no big deal and will help me to maintain Silver (I don’t fly so much these days). I cant believe Qantas messing me around so much over a relatively small matter. I don’t think they understand customer service or life time value of a customer concept at all! I am expecting they will ignore me and hope i go away. Has anyone else had this sort of problem and any suggestions?

Another query. Anyone received a targeted bonus SC email when there were sale fares to the searched destination?

Just finished up on our double yolkers from the Feb promotion. AU to NZ in August. Froze our bloody coughs off and our bloody DSCs went out with a bang when we pranged the bloody motorhome. Insurer wouldn’t accept it was all bloody QFF’s fault even though their bloody promo got us there in the first place.

Cheers skip
