QF/EK FF benefits revealed

I've got a booking in Sep this year under EK MEL-DXB-NBO-DXB-AMM-DXB-SIN-MEL
I am thinking about to get a QC membership, will QC give me access to DXB Emirates Business lounge for all three times I transit in DXB? How about MEL and SIN?
What about the guest policy?
All my flights are booked with Emirates directly though...

Initial thoughts:

Disappointed there's no SC earn on EK flight numbers (irrespective of metal). You get SCs with Oneworld carrier flight numbers so that's disappointing that this arrangement isn't similarly configured.

Totally weird that you get fast track immigration as a QF gold travelling on EK but not on QF. Pathetic almost.

Looks like you wont be able to purchase Y+ on EK ticketed flight numbers at all (no SC or points earn in the second table of that FAQ sheet).

Frankly, I am disappointed it isn't a true like for like on the QF flight numbers or the EK flight numbers. So basically, no QF earn on any EK flight that doesnt have a QF codeshare AND you must be ticketed as the codeshare. So much for full alignment.

As usual, an over promise and under deliver just to screw FFers at the margins.

It looks like I'll have to get in quickly to book my wife's next trip home with the flagged changes to the luggage allowance. Last trip in Business Class we managed to have over 160kg across six bags all up on the way over (the joys of Christmas giving). Halving those totals is going to cause some pain (either to my ears when I try to say no or to my bank balance when I pay the excess luggage charges :p ).

I presume it is lacking a qualification footnote about domestic/international but the schedule of benefits does clearly state that priority boarding will be benefit for gold, platinum and platinum one pax.

Sorry - I promise not to mention priority boarding much in this thread!! :p

A question for Red Roo

Currently Emirates offer the following:
In addition to your checked baggage allowance, you may also check in one set of golf clubs and one pair of golf shoes free of charge in any class of service on any Emirates flight.

Are there any plans for QF to match this allowance?

cheers
otis

54. Can Qantas Club members bring guests into the Emirates lounge?
Yes. For travel on/after 31 March 2013 Qantas Club members with access to the Emirates (EK) Dubai Lounge are entitled to bring a guest into that lounge. The guest must be travelling on the same onward flight that day as the Qantas Club member.

I don't see any mention of access for children.

I know it's often at the discretion of whoever is on the door, but I liked the fact that with QF it was a published benefit so I was sure beforehand that as a family we would all be admited.

Does anybody know whether the 'one guest' means that children will or will not be admitted to EK lounges in addition to the one guest.

I don't get all these people lugging masses of baggage around. I don't believe I've ever taken more than 20kgs of luggage anyway, including multiple ski trips. What on earth are people packing? I just find the thought of an overweight person + 40 kgs of baggage scary and seriously wasteful.

For us it is more about travelling lighter on the outbound journey and when returning from the UK or US stock up with additional items, e.g. clothes and presents as it is a once a year exercise. I'm sure we are not the only ones, especially what used to be another additional allowance coming from the US. :)

Frankly, I don't know why you would have expected otherwise, given QF has made it abundantly clear from the start that you would get points on all QF and EK flight numbers, but status credits on QF flight numbers only (including the codeshares on EK metal, which will cover all EK flights to Europe, Middle East and northern Africa).

They have delivered exactly what they promised. It's certainly not an "under delivery".

Note though that there is no minimum points guarantee on EK flight numbers or status bonus points - same as for other non alliance partners essentially.

I would expect the disappointment stems from the commitment to 'honour the highest benefit of the two airlines" pledge.

As always - haters going to hate!

I suppose most people were envisioning something similar to VA/EY, where you can earn both status and redeemable credits irrespective of marketing or operating carriers - sure, the earn rates are slightly different depending on marketing carrier, but otherwise it doesn't matter.

Suffice to say I think QF being a member of oneworld is slightly handcuffed in this regard to offering SCs on EK flights. That is one of the reasons why some suggest the global alliance systems are more trouble than they are worth.

Frequent Flyer - About the Program - Terms & Conditions

Now that EK flights will earn SCs (expected - from 31 Mar 2013), would someone start pondering about possible SC runs using the EK network ?

Markis10, where are you ?

DXB - LHR vs AMS - DXB ??

I didn't read the entire FAQ right at this moment, but a couple of residual things stick out in my mind (not that they might affect many here):
  • I think I read in the FAQ that Skywards Platinum and Gold members will have access to the Qantas Club in Australia domestic when flying in Economy on QF flights. There's no mention that Skywards Platinum can use the domestic Business Lounge.
  • Are you eligible for complimentary transfer at BNE / SYD / PER if you are connecting to a QF marketed & EK operated or EK marketed & EK operated flight?
  • The normal pecking order for the spa appointments at the QF First Lounge are Platinum One and QF First Class passengers, then any other eligible F Lounge guests (who book upon entering the spa). What happens to those who are First Class passengers on flights which are not QF marketed & QF operated guests?

Probably have a few other things I'll raise later.

Point two on transfers is a yes - Media Release - Qantas announces new chauffeur service.

Interesting that my parents and brother have just booked return flights from NCL-DXB-SYD in June/July this year for our wedding. Just paid a visit to their bookings and there is a mixture of H and S booking class. I had been holding them off booking the flights until the announcement and it now appears that the S fare will not classify for FF points? That is a little sneaky and unexpected!

NCL-DXB flights are EK coded and DXB-SYD are QF coded. As I cannot get hold of their status credits I was not too fussed about the mix of EK/QF as I was expecting all to receive FF points.

They said that they clicked on the ticket type when booking and it said points earned would be at Discount Economy rate. Is it worth giving Qantas a call to find out what is going on?

I have a very similar sounding problem with my mum's booking. Did they book via the qantas website? Mum did and her one EK flight is listed as 'S'. However, that is the qantas fare not the EK fare. I think.

I've found out the EK booking reference using checkmytrip. But the EK website won't give up a fare class. Any suggestions on how to get that info?
