QF/EK FF benefits revealed

A few lounge access observations:

- Q-Club members are a bit screwed over. What happens to a Q Club member flying to London from Perth? Is there any access to the Q-Club in perth given that the Emirates lounges are not available. Ditto for NZ.
- Q-Club members are stuck with the Admirals club in London. Does this allow access even if flying on an Emirates flight number?
- Will the Qantas clubs / lounges in US/New Zealand ports allow access to Gold / Platinum if flying on an Emirates flight number?
 
Does this mean reciprocal access in Australia - less relevant for SYD, MEL (at least for Plats), but potentially better for PER, BNE

Yes, its quite clear:

Access to both Qantas and Emirates lounges for Gold members (or above) of either program in Australia, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and North Africa.


Big win for us BNE folk!

Good to see that Qantas Club members are being looked after whether on QF or EK.
Interesting that AA has come to the party in LHR - I wonder if this signals BA closing its T3 lounges ??
Also the Qantas Club eligibility and access page states that lounge access for paid QC members travelling on BA will remain. Which is unexpected and positive.. (Unless they forgot to take it off when adding the Skywards and Emirates bits to the page)

For QClub only:
In PER, access to PER QF Longes (but not EK) on either QF or EK (same for all Domestic ports)
In LHR, access to AA Club on either QF or ek
For Plat/Gold
For US/NZ - Yes for QF Lounges only... No for EK lounges -- Reciprocal lounge access is not permitted for the Americas, New Zealand or South Africa.

Why wouldn't there be access in Perth and NZ?

For US/NZ - No -- Reciprocal lounge access is not permitted for the Americas, New Zealand or South Africa.

There is no reason QC members shouldn't be able to continue to access QCs in those places. Reciprocal access is not required

Does anyone know why there is no reciprocal lounge access in New Zealand flights? Is this just because the interim approval didn't cover NZ and they will extend lounge access there if the full approval is granted.

Yes, because the ACCC specifically exempted NZ services from the preliminary approval, anything to do with NZ can't be part of the deal.

Presumably, if the ACCC's final approval includes the NZ services, then lounge access in NZ would flow through. But don't count on the ACCC doing that.
 
Just saw in the fact sheet that cabin bonus on QF flight numbers is now:

First - 200%
Bis - 150%
Prem - 125%
Full whY - 100%
whY - 100%

I am assuming this means that you get 200% of base miles in F rather than 200% on top of the standard 100%. This is an uplift then from 50% for F and 25% for J isn't it?

Don't think it signals the closure of BA T3 lounges (as BA still has flights from that terminal), but does highlight the rift between Qantas and BA. At least with OneWorld Qantas FF'ers with approriate status can still acess the BA lounges if they so wish.

I would also think that this will signal the end of Qantas club access at T5 when connecting to European flights.

PS will be interesting to see if Qantas check-in changes to Emirates at T3 rather than the current joint BA check-in.
 
As per usual with any changes - some wins, some losses (but mostly good).

The one negative I see is that a Plat flying Econ with Qantas internationally did have 3x32kg bags - this has now been reduced to 50Kg in total.

But overall I think the changes are positive for me.

The higher of any benefit will be established as the norm..... Doesnt seem to be the case here does it Grrrrrrrrrrr
 
Hmm - not sure I understand this for kids baggage allowance:

CHILDREN As per adult allowance + 2 children’s items^

Does that mean in J the kid gets the 40KG + two other items such as a rocket ship and large panda?

Currently there are three EK daily departures from BNE, at 2:35am (iirc this will move to be a bit earlier) , 8:25am and 8:45pm. I assume the Emirate lounge will only be open 3 hours before EK departures. Given the the current schedules there is only 1 QF flight (QF8 to Sydney) from BNE that could make use of this access. I assume QF123 to Auckland is excluded because it is an NZ flight.

Certainly it is an imporvement. But if the opening hours stay the same then there is not much opportunity to use it at BNE.

I thought the BA access for QF Club members was linked to the JSA - so it makes sense that this will end when the JSA terminates. I don't think it indicates a broader rift. Given AA and EK are in discussions about an alliance, perhaps it just made sense to use AA rather than BA?? Speculation on my part, of course.

Opening hours will change given QF51s retiming to 10AM, and the 2.35AM time change is temporary. Its also open for the NZ departures so I would expect it will be readily available.
