QF/EK FF benefits revealed

It is rare that I look forward to air travel, but I have to say I am looking forward to my first QF flight via DBX. Unfortunately it two and a half months away.

The wording is a bit unclear.. it only says:

Which doesn't say you can't upgrade on EK metal on either an EK or QF number. Unless i missed another part?

This is what you can do

- Qantas Frequent Flyers can use their points to upgrade eligible commercial fares when booked on the Qantas flight number on Qantas operated aircraft

Stick to that, and you can't go wrong !

Re: Is Qantas about to kick Y-class Platinums out of the First Class lounge?

Not happy with the drop in Baggage Allowance !!!!

What was that I read some time ago?

The higher of any benefit will be established as the norm..... Doesnt seem to be the case here does it Grrrrrrrrrrr

Anyone that will connect to other OW carriers will be wise to pack with the 32kg limit in mind......some OW carriers won't move a bag over 32kgs.

That is standard practise for when there is a change like this that occurs.

Fair enough, but why wouldnt you make it from when tickets are bookable? And how are they going to differentiate at check-in?

Re: Is Qantas about to kick Y-class Platinums out of the First Class lounge?

Note. No single item of checked baggage may exceed 32kg (70lb) when traveling with qantas or Emirates

Opening hours will change given QF51s retiming to 10AM, and the 2.35AM time change is temporary. Its also open for the NZ departures so I would expect it will be readily available.

In the announcement it said "Reciprocal lounge access is not permitted for the Americas, New Zealand or South Africa."

Granted it is open to interpertation but I interpreted it as "Reciprocal lounge access is not permitted for [flights to or from] the Americas, New Zealand or South Africa." Rather than just for flights from those countries.

Just saw in the fact sheet that cabin bonus on QF flight numbers is now:

First - 200%
Bis - 150%
Prem - 125%
Full whY - 100%
whY - 100%

I am assuming this means that you get 200% of base miles in F rather than 200% on top of the standard 100%. This is an uplift then from 50% for F and 25% for J isn't it?
Unless this page is to be updated as yet, it may be a mistake in the .pdf:

Frequent Flyer - Earning Points - Fly - Airline Partners

They really look to me like Net earning - I would be surprised if (excluding status Bonus) there's a 3 QFF point per mile earn when travelling in First on Qantas or 2½ ppm on EK.

As I posted earlier:

Access to both Qantas and Emirates lounges for Gold members (or above) of either program in Australia, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and North Africa.

Lounge Access being conditional on location, not destination, otherwise EK members flying to SYD then NZ would miss out in Sydney as an example.

Benefit Qantas Frequent Flyer Members
Platinum,
Platinum One
Emirates First Lounges or Business Lounges in Dubai and Emirates Lounges
across Australia, Europe, Asia, North Africa and the Middle East

Gold
Emirates Business Lounges where available in Dubai and Emirates Lounges
across Australia, Europe, Asia, North Africa and the Middle East

Re: Is Qantas about to kick Y-class Platinums out of the First Class lounge?

I don't get all these people lugging masses of baggage around. I don't believe I've ever taken more than 20kgs of luggage anyway, including multiple ski trips. What on earth are people packing? I just find the thought of an overweight person + 40 kgs of baggage scary and seriously wasteful.

Shopping!! :D

Re: Is Qantas about to kick Y-class Platinums out of the First Class lounge?

Including a pram we took 86KGs with us to the UK - although that probably included 20KG of things we never used.

Personally I would consider taking all my dive gear including weights and tanks if I could.

I personally take products and work related projects with me all the time, the extra luggage allowance is critical to me. Sometimes I have even taken over 80kgs of Luggage. - You may call it scary and wasteful, to me its called business.

Re: Is Qantas about to kick Y-class Platinums out of the First Class lounge?

In celebration of these annoucements here is hopping for a double points offer sometime soon on flights involving EK.

some of us had well over 50kg of luggage travelling to London for the Olympics last year. A Sports photographer can have mountains of gear when you start adding big lenses.. A 600mm lens isn't light!

Fair enough, but why wouldnt you make it from when tickets are bookable? And how are they going to differentiate at check-in?

Usually because the baggage allowance you receive is tied to the e-ticket (i.e. it is put in there in the information section). Sometimes, the allowance is then nominally modified through a special sub-system at check-in, e.g. due to your status.

The e-ticket naturally contains the evidence of the date you booked (opened) the ticket, which then matches with the check-in system computer and/or the cheat sheet the agents have.

One problem with the new allowances is that this will mess up the "consistency" between domestic and international flights, unless you use the rule that if you have an international flight, the international allowance holds over the entire itinerary. This messes up things a bit for QF WPs who get 2 x 32 kg on domestic all the time (the international allowance for them will only be exceeded if they fly F). Hopefully that doesn't mean the domestic allowance will be enhanced! Suffice to say, I foresee the NGCI automation going through a few lumps after 1 April.

I assume that the allowances stated for Platinums on the baggage page accounts for the oneworld Emerald +20 kg benefit, i.e. normal First is 50 kg, then a oneworld Emerald / Platinum flyer gets 20 kg on this, giving a total of 70 kg as gazetted on the page (i.e. you don't get 90 kg).

Think QF can't win a trick on the luggage allowance side. Plenty of people were complaining before about the piece system (especially those stuck with 23 kg bags rather than 32 kg bags), even though they tended to be quite generous.

I assume you are correct. So we are not getting 3 points per mile flown in F!

The uplift you mentioned has been in place for a while for QF services (this corresponded with the Status bonus uplift for SG and PS to 75% and 50% respectively).

Don't expect upgrades to be available on EK operated and/or marketed services for QFF members.

55. As a oneworld member will I have access to the Emirates Lounge?

So almost half of my luggage allowance has been "enhanced" away...

On the bright side, it looks like I'll now be able to use the much better EK lounge in SIN.
