Airlines seem to be putting more requirements on both the passenger and the airport.

Through-checking seems to be getting more restrictive across most airlines.

LCCs aside (where it's mainly point to point with no through-checking). A lot of legacy/hybrid/full airlines aren't interlining on their own flights (e.g DL to DL, VA to VA, etc) unless if it's on the same ticket.

If there is no earlier connection, live with it. If there is, take it.

You can't interline to yourself by definition.

It's not always a choice. Connecting flights without through checking of bags and/or long layover times often cannot be avoided.

It is a choice to fly and to accept the conditions of carriage when booking.
If you are not going to accept the risk of an extended wait, don't take that route or don't fly commercial.

All day check-in exists at heaps of airports (well 2 I can think of recently!)

HKG - ITCI is designed to get your bags away so you can enjoy the day sightseeing before taking the train to the airport - seems totally reasonable to me.

LAX - just recently I arrived 6am and my next flight on AA wasn't until 1300 - AND ON A DIFFERENT TICKET.

I walked around to AA T4, checked-in, then sat in the lounge for 6 hours.

But it's all fake news anyway - people connecting from other ports on the same flight are checked-in - their bags are sitting somewhere. Why can't mine join them?
