That's just it,it does not make you a w***ker at all,but there are some(wa***rs) out there.and they are the people who seem to think that just because they fly in J that somehow makes their time and money more valuable than that of somebody who pays less and flies economy....

There is that breed of J-Class w**nker, the one who thinks that "I am a god and you may bow down before me because I fly J, and you there, oik, you only fly economy". I was the misfortune of being near one on a SYD-BNE flight last week. He had a very large rollaboard, which seemed way larger than the allowed size. The FA came over and asked him to stow it before takeoff, and he replied that there wasn't room. FA replied that it HAS to be stowed. J-Class w**ker's reply was, in a very haughty voice "That's YOUR problem".
A**hole.

I consider myself exceptionally lucky that my employer has the travel policy they do. I don't take it for granted, nor do I abuse it, lest it be taken away and replaced with a Y only policy as so many other employers have.

Correct answer from the FA is "let me arrange for it to be stowed for you ... in the hold ... of the next flight.

My company has gone almost all whY now, actually it always was for us in Asia but from Europe/USA etc they could usually fly business.

As it happens i do get help from work but i would say i am a mostly self funded WP, i enjoy travel and have paid for my fares to do so (Sure i have taken advantage of circle asia and rtw fares but i still paid.)
And for rtw i have flown F and J, but for say SIN-MEL on my own $$ i usually just buy the cheapest economy ticket i can :)

Bertee,
It took me a long time to realise what you are now facing. I went through a number of years of earning vast amounts of FF points but going nowhere in status.
I have never flown J or F in my life yet. I have only been into the lounge asmall handful of times and 80% of my travel is on my own dime. However I do travel quite a lot, previously for my own business and education, now juits to see my family in Australia.
I found out the hard way that to get status in the FF program required flying lots and on tickets that gave value to the airline. FF points don't entitle you to anything as they are really nothing moe than bonus currency, especially if earned outside of flying. The status is there to beneifit those that spend large quantities of their time sitting in the airline's planes. And particulalry to those who spend more for the flexibilty of their tickets. If you are going to save your dollars and fly discount Y so be it. but the less you spend on the airline the less they feel they need to spend on you.
I personally like to have some status and have taken to purchasing more flexible fares.. they are still economy and I sit in the same seat as everyone else, but I appreciate the ability to change flights as required by me or the airline, and appreciate that I can get exit row seats allocated or access to the lounges. You have to decide what is worth more to you.. better flying conditions regardless of Class of service, ie preferential boarding, a good deal of flexibility if you meeting runs late or you get to the airport early and lounge access- or- saving as much money as you can. there is also the trade off here in which if I was spending 3 out of 4 weeks on a plane day after day, I would happily forgo a bonus to get just alittle more comfort when travelling constantly, and that will help your bottom line because you or your employee is feeling better at the end of the trip.

I learnt the hard way and now I have made status in a program thanks to the help of those guys and girls here who have blazed those trails before me. Take your time, relax and read the things these people have posted and you will learn that getting status isn't that difficult and that with their advice you may also save some money even in situations you never thought possible.

I still do not believe that "Status Points" that Qantas allocate for flights should have any bearing on my level, but I am over the so called Silver,Gold etc status that is near unobtainable to FF who choose to save their company $$$ and sit in ECY. What I save on the class,I can easily pay my annual Qantas Club membership.

I am currently silver and will hopefully be gold next month, and all of that has been on Y or disc Y. it isn't that hard to do if you are travelling frequently. And why do you feel the status credits shouldn't have any bearing on your level? That's the way they measure your flying (you don't getr staus credits for credit card spends etc.

There are plenty of tips on this site that will help you maximise your status credits etc.

Cheers,

Nick

I was SO willing that to happen, that would have made my day. Or even better, Basil Fawlty style, pick the bag up, open a handy door and drop it on the tarmac. "There you are sir, all taken care of for you."

J-Class w**ker's reply was, in a very haughty voice "That's YOUR problem".

And we wonder why FAs refer to the J cabin as 'Pigs in Space'?

Unfortunately some people are just unpleasant, narcissistic d*ickheads in all facets of their lives; I work for Frenchmen, so I have first-hand experience of the phenomenon; and flying just makes them worse. It would pay them to remember that if they have to fly commercial, they aren't that special. The really important people fly in private aircraft from private terminals.

I remain a F/F member and loyal to QF mainly for patriotic reasons and to get a cheaper flight or free from time to time and thus save my business money that I can pay bonuses to my staff or invest in new equipment. How many of you pay your own way?

I do complete a lot of dometic company travel in Y and J, full fare, so status credits do rack up.

However internationally on holidays where I feel it is justified I travel business class paying my own way - the status credits really start to roll in and WP status requalification is a given. And J travel on JAL or CX in Asia for short hauls can proide very good status credit returns.

I have met flyers on board or in lounges boasting how much they earn, their bonuses, perks etc and why they insist on Club membership as part of their salary package. These are the sorts of people that the companies are going to let go first in the very near future fortunately.

That's a pretty big generalisation - if you're a "high flyer" who is good at his/her job and adds value to the business the perks will remain. If you're dead wood in a company then your days would be numbered.
