Hi All,

Does anyone know the flight plan out of Sydney tomorrow - particularly whether there’ll be a flyover of the harbour / CBD?

My friend & I are deciding whether to brave the crowds at Shep’s Mound or whether to chance our hand in the city.

Any intel appreciated.

I got those safety cards from the Canberra flight, happy to give them away for free if you're in Sydney or otherwise just pay me the postage fee.

The final Qantas B747-400ER (VH-OEJ) will depart Sydney at 1400 hrs (local) on Wednesday 22 July 2020. To mark this historic event, the aircraft will overfly Shellharbour airport (YSHO) at 1500 ft to salute the first Qantas B747-400, before setting course for the United States.

The aircraft will exit controlled airspace abeam Stanwell Park at 3000 ft approximately 2-3 NM off the coastline, before descending to 1500 ft and overflying Port Kembla thence YSHL before making a left turn, and departing to the North-East over the ocean.

I'm wondered the same, but as I'm based on lower north shore, think my plan will be stay this side.

I watched the first 747 arrival over Sydney Harbour from my school in North Sydney. Think I will find a similar vantage point today.

Farewell OEJ Today we will say goodbye to our final 747 VH-OEJ as it departs Sydney for the last time. Following a ceremony at Hangar 96, OEJ will taxi past Shep's Mound and receive a water canon salute, before taking off just after 2pm as QF 7474 and completing a lap of honour over Sydney and surrounds. For those wanting to catch a glimpse of the aircraft, it will initially turn towards western Sydney before flying over the airport and heading east about five minutes into its flight. Just off the coast, the 747 will return and pass by North Head on its way to the Harbour Bridge, about ten minutes after take-off. Subject to Air Traffic Control, QF 7474 will make a second fly-by over the bridge and head out to sea, tracking down to Shellharbour Airport where it will dip its wing in a final farewell to VH-OJA, the record-breaking Qantas 747-400 on display at the HARS Museum. From there, the aircraft will head out over the Pacific Ocean bound for Los Angeles and the Mojave Desert.
