AFAIK no flights from origin to another airport which then has nonstop to SYD, so would be minimum 2 transit points just to SYD.

I really don't think Dave was thinking the UK when he said Europe. In fact I doubt his "Europe" staring point is defined as Europe by anything other than airline continent definitions :p . Most maps and geographers would place it in another continent. I epxect he could get to SYD with a single transit point, but not to NZ.

When I say Europe, I don't mean Europe in the geographical meaning, but in the meaning that the service is a Club Europe service. Silly NM; you probably think that Canada and USA are different countries too, but obviously trips between them are domestic :)

I could ( keeping away from OW carriers ) do it in 1 transit, but getting to SYD cannot be done in 1 transit from there; I am actually doing SYD in the min of 2; there is 1 more sector to NZ of course. Once I get to Oz, I'll probably play with the routing such that it is anything but direct to NZ :)

Based on the 3 transits to/from NZ, there was $580 in fuel fines from BA

Oh yes ... silly NM. And there was me thinking I understand the definition of international vs domestic flights. I was sure that AKL-CHC is not a domestic flight (at least according to QF) :p .

Only for the purposes that suits QF. No free booze, no food, minimal IFE - all things you'd expect for an international flight. No duty free on arrival either :(

No departure tax, no immigration queues and no MAF either.;)

Oh my flight to AKL for next Friday just cleared and I get the Y fare bracket which according to QF is the only fare class that gives me full economy SC for NZ domestic, because we are international! Unfortunately the flight is NZ so it does not matter.....

Normally not much of an immigration queue for me (pre-cleared for departure and walk very fast down the pier on arrival), MAF provides handy clean of my boots. Okay no departure tax is a benefit - wish they had an annual payment system.

But I did not say it was an international flight, just that it is not a domestic flight :p . You are assuming those are the only two options!

What is a flight that is both not domestic and not international? I know of a flight that is domestic with an international stop en route - that is called an international flight even though start and end in the same country, and no I'm not referring to any triangle routes like SNN-ORD-DUB(-SNN).

Bur Qantas do allow for your International seating preferences; although "Upper Deck" has no effective meaning here. :p

I guess you mean Brisbane. Sorry can't handle country towns. I like to live in a big city with nightlife after 8:00pm!

This place is on the tip of my tongue but just can't quite think of the name. Any tips to help me remember the name?

The flights I was thinking of are CDG-PPT vv (via JFK or via LAX).

I havn't heard much about Fuel Surcharges recently, but surely it is time for surcharge to come down a little bit more.

Maybe it's time for the press to start hounding Qantas again about reducing it!

Correct. Cathay have reduced their fuel surcharges from today, 01 Dec 06. I am not certain but the reduction is ~A$2.50 for longhaul sectors and ~A$0.70 for short haul sectors. Not a significant decrease one would have to think.

It is rumoured that China Eastern and China Southern will follow with similar reductions.

ANA will reduce the fuel surcharge on international tickets issued on or after 01 Jan 07. The reduction will be ~A$12.00 (1100 yen) per internation ticket.

I note that the oil price has gone up over USD61 per barrel in the last days or three ...

But also the A$ exchange rate has been at yearly highs. Currently at 78.8c. So that should counteract the slight increase in oil price in US$.

According to the latest ASX announcment
"as a result of strong trading conditions and subject to fuel prices remaining around current levels, it expects its reported profit before tax for 2006/07 to be 25 to 30 per cent above the 2005/06 result."
QAN Company Announcements
I guess the fuel fines are helping QF....
