In todays announcements and AJ speech.

”Today we announce several more investments for our customers, starting with improvements to our lounges.
• Internationally, our Auckland lounge will be completely upgraded.
• Domestically, we’ll add a new Business Lounge to our existing Qantas Club in Adelaide and also
renovate our Chairmans Lounge.
• Regionally, our Port Hedland and Rockhampton lounges will be upgraded and expanded.

Work on these lounge projects starts progressively from now through to early next year.”

I wonder if this means the Qantas lounge in Auckland is going to be closed, which is going to be a real shame considering the Emirates lounge is also closed.

Got flights out of AKL in October and nervous there won’t be a lounge available anymore..

Still I’ve heard that the lounge has been desperately in need of an upgrade so I suppose that’s good news in general.

I suspect they’ll have some work around or progressively refurb - it also depends on what space they use (existing or new).

I imagine the plan will be to have a shiny new lounge ready for direct AKL-JFK flights from June 2023.

AKL has been on the cards for many years.

PHE is the worst club ive been to, the cupboard under the stairs.

ADL while welcome, the club is one of the best in the network

Yes, and long overdue….

What‘s the bet the QP will shrink to make room for the J lounge! Unless there’s some master plan that’s freeing up more space?

Basically this, since there has been one lounge in ADL they have combined QF/Oneworld first, business, club and lounge pass holders together and since they can’t distinguish them have treated all passengers as business or higher.

By separating out to it’s own Club and Business lounge, I can fairly well bet the service level of the existing club is going to drop drastically in line with MEL or SYD club.

I don't think you're in any danger for October when the timeframe for AKL in the announcement on the QF website is "The detailed design process will begin shortly and building work will be staged to enable the lounge to operate during the redevelopment." In other words they haven't even really started the detailed planning yet.

Still no news on that ever-promised SYD lounge upgrade either.. 😕
I'm surprised there is still no news on the SYD lounges. A new international business lounge was announced in early 2018 and was supposed to be completed by the end of 2019, but this faded. In early 2020, the Sydney domestic business lounge was supposedly "top of the list" to be refurbished, obviously COVID put a halt to those plans.

They got the dishwasher working again in domestic J, what more do you want?

(truly the most miserable lounge and the one I spend most time in)

It will have to. I'd suggest the rear half will be hived off but that does make the bar location and buffet an issue.

I do like how the (newer, updated, mixed-level) lounges reflect (without being too cliched) the city they are in eg. London, HKG, LAX, SIN, Mel Domestic J with the spice bar and perpetual line up for coffee, even PER with it’s open air area making the most of the PERfect weather (ok maybe not recently).

What will be the Adelaide theme?
