QF now charging WP for all Exit Row economy seats [CL/WP1 exempt]

Australian registered aircraft, no for B737/A320s etc etc. A330/A380/B747 not required to be filled.

So if no-one buys an exit row seat, pax will be asked to move to fill these seats for free?

Personally, despite being P1, I feel this is poor choice by QF. I also wouldn't be too surprised if they back down, at least on WP. That would be sensible.

I also do not understand why they would not do this in smarter way. If they insist on enabling this for those with status on hundreds more flights a day, then why not create a tierred pricing approach? Broze $x, Silver 75% of $x, Gold 50% of $x, etc.. I mean if you must do it, show there are real benefits the higher up you go. P1 is a step too high for the vast vast vast majority of flyers, and CL impossible to earn, but WP is not unreasonable - specially to many here.

If you're going to charge Plats, make it nominal.. 25% of $x or ideally keep it free, or maybe even say "Look if at T-80 or when you check in the exits are free, you can move free of charge" which would still give a chance to those not willing to pay

I think there are ways to go about this tho satisfy their revenue urge but to also make it more customer friendly(as much as you can !)

Still, I think robust feedback to QF may get them to reconsider, as VA did....

Assuming weight and balance issues allow, and there are eight able bodied passengers.
If there are less than eight able bodied passengers, there is a seating order!

I've provided my 5c worth of feedback online to Qantas on the change. I'm in the camp that prefers an exit row, instead of row 4, when I fly domestic.

I am sure that is because A330/A380/B747 exits all have FA seated in jump seats at each of the exits. Very different from the 737/A32S.
Did 767 have overwing exits with passenger seats in the row?

The OG's yes, they had passenger seats in the row from memory, but the ZX's did not.

Just tested out the process on an upcoming flight.

$40 for a MEL-CBR return to go for exit row, also gave me the option of spending 5,500 points.

This was on a Red e-deal, so you can use a 1/4 of the points required for a business upgrade for the exit row luxury.

This is my tweet to @qantas and their lame (and I suspect, automated) response.

@Qantas what are you thinking removing free exit row seats for Gold Platinum FFs and charging everyone for this #madness

We understand your frustrations Braith. We'll pass on your feedback. Zen

I'm still waiting for the so-called "fuel surcharge" to be axed (airlines have run out of excuses on that one). And for pigs to fly. Greed. Pure greed.

They do still have to run on fuel, you know. I don't think they've managed to run airplanes on air, just yet. ;)

Tongue-in-cheek reply, just in case it wasn't obvious.

I tweeted "@Qantas disappointed free extra legroom seats for elites is no longer. Ironically @VirginAustralia now has more extra legroom for elites." and the lame response was "Thanks for getting in touch David, we've taken your thoughts onboard. Maritha"

I suspect the social media team have a set of standard responses they can cut and paste into replies.

Just added my voice to this as well... standby for canned reply in 3, 2, 1 ...

I think we have all had the canned response from social media :D :D :D But the more that complain the better.

What are pax who dont use twitface doing to contact QF. The generic QFF contact us page that leads to the qantas points feedback form?
Or is there a better page one should be using?

You could try the following

by facsimile to 1800 613 844 within Australia or +61 2 9490 1857 outside Australia;
by telephone on 13 13 13 (24 hours per day, 7 days per week) or to Qantas Customer Care on +61 2 9691 3399 (9am to 5pm Australian Eastern Standard Time, Monday to Friday);

Actually, they only need fuel for reward flights these days.

Those paid with $$$ don;t seem to have as much YQ. :p
