Well I will be Platinum in 10 days time, first time ever, and I spoke to QF the other day about domestic lounge access to QPs. QF Platinums are allowed access to domestic QPs, with 2 guests, even when they are not flying on the day.

My target is to get the full value out of this alone for the next 12 months. My friends are interested and dad has not stopped talking about it since I mentioned it to him a few weeks ago.

Umm access to QPs ? Do you just mean the QF Club? (ie Canberra).

QP = Qantas Pub aka the Qantas Club. It's a kind of tongue-in-cheek reference to the alcohol available there :D

... but with the standard of food now available in QPs the effect on your body would be far worse ...
That's probably an exaggeration; there's actually some quite 'healthy' food available at QP's if one sticks to cold food while ignoring things like the cheeses and salamis. Of course, moderation rules still apply.

... And then if you consider the real reason for visiting the QP is the free drinks, I hate to imagine how it would turn out ;) .
It's the complimentary HP's that would do you in!

Does anyone else remember the episode of Kath and Kim, where Kath and Kel stay in the QP instead of flying out for their weekend away?

Congrats.. I've only used the 'access any time' it a few times since being WP. Once in Perth where I had an early morning flight so I went in the night before for a few drinks and to print my boarding passes. It was walking distance to where I was staying so no car problems.
I've also used it a few times after landing in Sydney to have a light dinner and a few drinks before going home..
And a few times in Hong Kong when travelling KA as I didn't have access to the KA lounge.

Is that when they used their Video Easy card to get access?

Yes. Speaking of Kath & Kim - that was stopped on the screens ages ago. Any chance 2 1/2 men could be similarly stopped?

Tried to, but got refused, then snuck in whilst the attendant was busy. I think it was shot in Melbourne.

Be careful, we could end up with Big Brother or Neighbours episodes

You are probably right, but I for one wouldn't want to live on it for any more than one meal at a time. I think you would grow long furry ears:shock:.

Or the red wine (shiraz preferrably) in my case ;).

For all you QP wine drinkers, in the movie Hot Fuzz, the lead character Nicholas Angel was in a pub and askes the publican what wine selection he has. The publican states "We have red wine and we have white wine"

Even in the QP you get a choice of 2 of each, plus a bubbly of course. I can usually find one that is worth tasting (just a taste of course ;)).

For about two years after Ansett's demise, the reds in QPs became abysmal.

I took to tasting one, then the other and if that did not work, I would try 50/50. Sort of a QP Crud Blend, as it were ...

:p

BTW, HP is generic for any age restricted QP beverage ... ;)

Just hope you don't need to go as far as mixing the white and the red to make a Rose :(.

Hi,
I have been a QF Plat member for about 3 years now and I can say it has been well worth it. My name is Tony.
My question is has anyone with QF Platinum status flown Jetstar Star Class recently? If yes, have you been allowed to access the QF first class lounge as per normal QF flight process or do they only allow you to access the business lounges? Looking forward to replies.

Hello Tony, and welcome to AFF.

It is my belief that Plat gives access to QC at any time when open, flying or not. Thus you should definitely get access to J lounge, but F lounge is not a QC lounge. Plat gives access to F lounge which isn't a QC when you are flying a One World airline, and Jetsar isn't a one world airline. You could always try to gain entry, but I wouldn't like your chances.

If I have it wrong I'm sure someone will let us know.:p

Yes. :D Qantas Platinum FF access to a QF FL is currently a benefit, regardless of the class or airline that you are flying!

Specifically, to allay your fears, prior to both my JQi flights out of SYD last month, I entered the old FL (with a guest) without an issue. They even made JQi boarding announcements. (They don't however have JQ computer access though, it is silly that air-side SYD T1 QAN only has JQ interfaces for staff at the transfer desk and gates!)

Oh, as a StarClass passenger, you may be given an invitation to visit the Qantas Club / Business Lounge, your are not being forced to use it, this is just standard procedure, so don't feel obliged.

Enjoy!
