Same as for Qantas - the traveller receives status credits (and any benefits associated with tier) but not points.
cheers

Just did an ADL/CBR return trip under WOAG.
Grand total for one way: 670 SC, No Velocity Points.
Previous flight 12 months ago earned 1,152 SC and 1,152 Velocity Points.
Of course last year was a Corporate Flex fare, this time thanks to WOAG was a Blue Saver.
Still I did quite enjoy the E190 and with the one aircraft doing ADL>CBR>ADL the times suited me better also (arrived in CBR during daylight for a change and didnt need to rush away from meetings to come home).

Richard.

Yeah agreed. Plus i note that the new fares show up on the travel card significantly cheaper than they used to. It doesn't matter on Qantas if a fully flex is half price, same status credits but on Virgin I'll have to fly heaps more because status is dollar value related.

Case in point of why I think a spend based system sucks (IMHO).

Depends where you fly, I did a return to ZQN for cheaper than QF and earned just over 5k points/SC as a Gold. If I took all the routs where QF has been more expensive than DJ I think I’d have a real easy shot at hitting the requal.

I did a cheapest fare deal to ZQN return and got a 1/10th of my way back, in QF a similar deal, pricing slightly more, would give me 40SC of 600SC (assuming I’m shooting for lounge access/equivalent lower level), which is 1/15th of the way back.

Different routes will price out differently, but in this case (which is currently my only flight with them) it works out to be better value.

Velocity is not entirely SC per spend based, things are changing!

Really? Could you elaborate?
I'm definitely not an expert on any if this but it appears to be pure dollar spend/status bonus that's linked to dollar spent.

That's domestic Australia and some others DJ flights.

There has been recent reference from AFF members Velocity Rewards / Crazydave98 regarding additions/changes making some earnings distance based in some manner.

And, of course, there is milage earning on V Australia and other partners.

Have a look at the Etihad earning as a possible way the program is changing.

How is it different to the other international partners?

They all seem different. Virgin Atlantic for example does like 2000 status credits to for <6000 miles. Malaysian does a per mile status point but starts at 0.3 up to 1.25 per mile for Y/K fares. Bit all over the shop atm.

First non Virgin group airline to provide SCs on a mile basis along with MH rather than no SCs or SCs based on sector length.

Interesting. I didn't realise that MH earnt status as well as points -- and it would appear that you get bonus points for being Gold, which you don't get on EY. When did MH start earning status?

Is there any chance DJ will match to NZ? With the touted NZ-DJ co-operation not going as smoothly as first hoped, and with NZ busily degrading their Trans Tasman service, sure this is an opportunity DJ shouldn't miss...?
