The QF earning table & calculator have always been useless. I got so sick of this, I simply built my own super-calculator spreadsheet to perform all the heavy lifting and allow me to plan accordingly.

I agree its not clear and Qantas could do a lot to make it clearer.
However, note that the table posted at the top of this thread is ONLY for FF points earning rates. It is NOT about Status Credit earning rate.
That table does NOT show anything about how many SCs you will earn with any particular type of fare.
The confusion comes about because Qantas does not make it clear that the table is only for Points earning rate and it is not representing SC earning rates. Their failure to make it clear and obvious, and the inclusion of the text "Status Credits are earned on all eligible booking classes" causes people to believe that the table references to earning rates also related to Status Credits. It does not, but I fully understand why people expect that it does based on the lack of clarity and inference.
A great deal of confusion is generated by the inconsistent use of the term "Discount Economy" between points earning and status credit earning. While I understand the difference, I fully understand how many people are confused by the inconsistent application of the term. Having the same fare class classified as Economy in one table and discount economy in another generates a lot of confusion. For example, a B class international fare is considered Economy for points earning, but its considered Discount Economy for Status Credit earning. Very confusing for many members. Thanks for your comments. The Airline Earning Table is designed to outline points earn by carrier and fare type/booking class.
Acknowledge that it's visually quite complex for Qantas. One of the major factors adding to complexity for QF earn is driven by allowing earn on Any Seat Awards booked in P/U/Z/X booking classes (which we know you love!), which don't earn when booked as a Classic Award (or when used in an Upgrade Award). As a result, we are required to outline the earn rates for P/U/Z/X on four separate lines, as they represent four separate cabins. Having said that, we'd be interested in your thoughts on presenting this in an alternative manner.

Well done Mal for bringing this to the attention of QF (via Red Roo). I sent in feedback well over a year ago via the QF website on this issue, still haven't heard anything back....
I have noticed that 'some' Star Alliance websites make it very easy to understand what you earn in what class. Aegean is just an example of how is can be done clearly IMO...
Thanks Red Roo... Some feed back on the Status Credit calculator: when I want to check JQ *class flights, it comes up with QF doesn't fly that route.FWIW, Status Credit earn is outlined separately here. I've passed your feedback to Qantas Frequent Flyer in regards to making this clearer in relation to the points earn tables.
Qantas also has a decent alternative summary available for the airline partners:
Frequent Flyer - Earning Points - Fly - Airline Partners
Frequent Flyer - Earning Points - Fly - Airline Partners
Thanks Red Roo... Some feed back on the Status Credit calculator: when I want to check JQ *class flights, it comes up with QF doesn't fly that route.
eg: SYD-DPS in business states - there are no direct flights between Sydney and Denpasar. Use the timetable to search for connecting flights.
