Hey Guys ,

Stuck again ,I am checking for, 12 March 2011, JASA CBR - SYD - HBA --- 40,000 pts + $133.67 .

markis10 can you please tell me where do you see the CBR-SYD-HBA 16,000 pts + cash ??

80-100 SC run planning is not as easy as I hoped. :-)

I am getting good red-e-deals MEL - CBR , and a *saver HBA- MEL

Thanks.

To get the really low points you need to find flights where there is classic award availability in Business class.

You then look to book the same flights as JASA's.

How are you trying to book, if Ikey in CBR to HBA I can see an Option via SYD for 23000 which becomes 16000 + cash.

A quick question for the experts then. Is it worth doing two JASAs CBR-SYD-HBA-MEL-CBR for 64,000pts + $275.81 to earn 360 SCs to attain Gold? (I actually only need 305 SCs by 31 December 2010.)

I figure that the effective cost of the two runs would be less than the 64,000 points (+ cash), as I'd earn 10,000 pts. I'd also earn 360 SCs towards the 450 SC loyalty bonus (equivalent to 4,000 pts).

I have one large overseas trip planned ex SYD early next year, flying Y on QF and AA, including likely stops in SFO/LAX, DFW, IAH, MIA, MCO, SEA and LAX. The Gold status would earn me about 4,500 points extra (further reducing the effective cost of the two JASA status credit runs), and give me lounge access in most of these locations I guess (SEA excluded, presumably, as QF codeshares onto Alaska for SEA-LAX). That may make the two runs worth it, perhaps; especially if I travel again after this trip.

Your learned thoughts would be very much appreciated (especially if someone has a cheaper way to earn 305 SCs by year's end!)

Well, leny and I stalked each other around the south-east last Saturday on the CBR-SYD-HBA-MEL-CBR run, eating too much on the ground and in the air along the way! It was good to meet a fellow member on this run!

leny, you'll have to let us know how long it takes for your Silver package to arrive after your having qualified on Saturday. I hope it doesn't take too long.

I'm off to do it again tomorrow. With the 2.5-hour drive to CBR, it makes for a long day! (Here's hoping Majura Road is open tomorrow, and I don't have to detour via Canberra itself again!)

Thanks serfty. Now I know why I could never find the low points + money.

After reading all the postings etc, I've also decided to go for Silver as I'm planning a longish o/seas trip next year and the lower requalifying SCs makes it easier to requalify before I leave.

It was a toss up between a holiday in Broome or Fiji and Fiji won. This trip + some others booked should see me hit Silver well before my qualifying date.

With a trip like that planned being SG might be useful to choose some good seats early.

Being in the US is also an opportunity to get some cheap SCs and requalify for SG next membership year, or even to a WP run.

Thanks Hvr.

I completed the second run yesterday, and am now officially SG/Sapphire until 31 December 2011. Now to wait for that little Gold card to arrive.

Hopefully I can pick some good seats for my flights to the US next year (once I book them); hopefully I can even select the PE seats on QF73 if that option is still available in March!

I don't know about doing a WP run in the US, though, as tempting as it may be! I don't think I fly that much to justify such a run. I'll be content to try to retain SG for now.

On a slight aside, the SYD-HBA flight yesterday had the most magnificent salmon fillet as the meal. I very much enjoyed it! Also, the same 737-400 operated the SYD-HBA-MEL-CBR flights yesterday, unlike last week where the SYD-HBA-MEL aircraft didn't continue on to CBR.

Oh, and Majura Road wasn't flooded this week--I made it to CBR without having to detour!

Hi airbound,

I am doing the CBR-HBA run on Tuesday. Aircraft shows as a Boeing 737-800.
Did you fly on a 737-400 or 737-800? Would prefer the 800 if I can get it. :)

Hi ric_melb,

When I did the CBR-SYD-HBA-MEL-CBR run on 4 December, two flights were on a 737-400 and two were on a 737-800. I can't remember which way round it was, but the SYD-HBA-MEL was the same aircraft.

Yesterday, the SYD-HBA-MEL-CBR was a 737-400; I think, but I don't recall exactly, that the CBR-SYD was a 737-400 too.

Thanks airbound, will cross my fingers, and hope to get some good salmon on my SYD/HBA flight.

I am doing this run tomorrow, just in case anyone else happens to be doing it (well not really as a run as I am going to visit my family in HBA and I live in CBR...)

One more silly question.

I am flying MEL - PER - HKG @ QF --- HKG - BOM @ CX & BOM-BNE VIA SIN @ QF52 ----- BNE- MEL @ QF

Cheapest outbound on the 20th
Inbound 26th , bought them for a family "PAN PAN" - just wondering how many SC's will I earn doing this.

ALL legs are whY class. ( gonna be bruised by the end of it all.)

Thanks i was able to calculate all the QF SC's ,

but where do I find how many SC's I will earn with CX HKG-BOM ???

The LAN site isn't letting me book syd - akl. Is this the case for everyone else?

May be slightly OT... reading the posts here just gave me an idea... would it be possible to say, follow an aircraft's itinerary for an entire day? I suppose you would get extra brownie points if you get the same seat for the entire day as well? :)
