Slightly OT, and happy to have moved to a new thread if required ...

Having made the decision to do the Boxing Day and New Year's Test Matches this year*, as well as four A-League matches (including one in transit on the last day!), I had the following original itinerary (with the MEL-SYD-MEL on a separate ticket):

25DEC PER-ADL-MEL
30DEC MEL-SYD
09JAN SYD-MEL(am), MEL-PER(eve)

I then noticed the other day that the PM's XI match in Canberra is on 10 January, which would also give me an ideal opportunity to book the Hobart Express for the 11th. So my itinerary now looks like this:

25DEC PER-ADL-MEL
30DEC MEL-SYD
09JAN SYD-MEL(am), MEL-CBR(eve)
11JAN CBR-MEL-HBA-SYD-CBR (arr 1615), CBR-MEL(1710/1820), MEL-PER(2015/2115)

I then received a phone call from QF today whilst at the cricket, advising me that I had a duplicate booking in the system, being two CBR-MEL sectors on the same day. My obvious response was "One in the morning, one in the evening", but after saying that she couldn't see any other bookings in my profile and going around in circles a few times, she finally found everything and stated that she would put a note on the bookings for the Operations Department declaring them "OK".

So now I (hopefully) only have one more issue to resolve - what to do with my luggage from MEL & SYD? I'm assuming that CBR will not allow me to check my bag in for CBR-MEL(pm) & MEL-PER 12 hours before departure (especially when also doing the SC run first), and the connection from SYD-CBR and CBR-MEL is too tight to come out, collect a bag and check it in (providing I actually get back to CBR in time for the following "unprotected" flight). I'm thinking the best thing to do is to leave my bag at MEL (SmarteCarte) on 09JAN, carry-on only for CBR and the SC run, collect before MEL-PER on 11JAN and do a bag drop there and then. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Cheers
Cheesy

* A decision that was made months ago, looking like a very long fortnight about a week ago, but now hopeful again after today's efforts!

May be slightly OT... reading the posts here just gave me an idea... would it be possible to say, follow an aircraft's itinerary for an entire day? I suppose you would get extra brownie points if you get the same seat for the entire day as well? :)

Awesome idea , I would like to do that , maybe get hold if a earliest morning out of Melbourne and come back late that evening , if have some decent spare cash.

But where to find the a full day itinerary for A particular aircraft ???

Regards.

Yes ... don't check luggage!

On Qantas domestic Jet service all passengers are permitted 2 x 7kg carryon.

This should be enough to last you a fortnight (launder clothes in MEL & SYD during the tests).

FWIW, I could do it easily with 1x7kg rollaboard and a laptop bag.

If you must check luggage then Luggage storage: SmarteCarte - Melbourne Airport costs $11/$15 per piece per 24 hours (or part thereof).

There are some people on AFF that have access to that information but it may too much work to post for everyone that wanted to do this.

The QF website used to have Departure and Arrival information which made it slightly easier to identify where a particular aircraft was going.

It is still possible to determine where an arriving aircraft is going by looking at the arrival time and then adding ~40 minutes (assumption that it takes 20 minutes to deplane and 20 minutes to board 737's, 763's amd A332's) to get the departure time of a similat aircraft.

It may be easier to follow 737's, 763's and A332's out of smaller airports such as HBA, CBA, CNS, TSV, ADL, DRW and PER but not impossible to follow them out of SYD, MEL and BNE.

Yes ... don't check luggage!

Thanks serfty! I realise that's the logical solution and usually the one that I employ, but on this trip unfortunately not the practical solution due to having to pack additional items for work purposes. :(

I guess my question is whether paying the $45.00 fee for 2 days and 2 hours storage at MEL is the only option.

I guess you need to factor that in to the cost benefit for the SC run.

True, a small price to pay when you look at it that way ... providing all previous flights on that day run to schedule!

11JAN CBR-MEL-HBA-SYD-CBR (arr 1615), CBR-MEL(1710/1820), MEL-PER(2015/2115)

Is it standard for QF to call customers asking them to justify alleged duplicate bookings like this?

I am thinking of doing:

MEL-HBA (Y)
HBA-SYD-CBR (JASA)
CBR-MEL-HBA (JASA)
HBA-MEL (Y)

This would create a duplicate MEL-HBA leg on the same day. Hoping that they don't do something crazy like cancel one of the bookings on me.

If they notice the same route on the same day, it will get queried. The idea is to stop business people holding lots of bookings until they decide which flight they want.
The other thing you may have to pay ettention to is that if you do the same sector twice in one day, the FF system may not credit the points for one of the flights. In this case, you need to call to fix it.

The same thing happened to me with the following sectors on the same day:
CBR-MEL-HBA (J)
HBA-SYD-CBR (J)
CBR-MEL (Y)
MEL-PER (Y)

The CBR-MEL got queried, to which I told them it was valid. The points failed to get posted for the second CBR-MEL sector, and quick phone call solved that problem.

180 SCs

Okay I am going to fall short of retaining Gold before my reassessment date :evil:

I need 300SC as per the original poster, over the next few months as a result so thinking of the above and something else I guess ?

I am in MEL so any thoughts ?

300 SCs is a big call and obviously yours to make when it comes to value, however if you are time poor, want to do something a little away from the golden triangle and have two long legs on an A333 with a Skybed:

Its 400 SC in total, and earns as a SG 11716 points.
