Indeed I would not jump the queue as that would be considered rude by those in the queue. If they have a dedicated premium boarding line, then I will certainly use it. But I would not jump an existing queue.

Unless invited as I have seen in the USA when the opened up the lines and then paged status passengers to go to the front of the line. :cool:
 
There is almost a complete lack of elitism at Perth domestic. One bag drop line and one check-in line for platinum, gold, silver, Qantas Club, business. That's it.

Yup... I don't think Aussies would like queue-jumpers, no matter what their BP says!

I have heard on a number of occasions for premium passengers to board using, say, the right lane or to board at their leisure.

Would it be considered queue jumping if WHY passengers started using the premium lane at the request of gate agents and a premium passenger, who just arrived, wanted to board before them? Maybe.
 
Given that you'll almost certainly run into a queue on the aerobridge anyway, with the people you've just "jumped" coming up behind you, is it really worth the bad vibes to save a couple of minutes?

If non-premium passengers have been invited by gate staff to use the premium lane, then as far as I am concerned they have as much right to use that lane as I have. If I was not at the gate early enough to make use of the priority boarding, then I join the rest of the passenger in the premium queue. Its not up to me to determine if my "need" or "right" is greater than the other people in the queue.

Personally I would not do it. I am always one of the last to board and many a time when I have been asked to board, while lurking at boarding gate, there are still passengers waiting on the aerobridge anyway.

I only highlighted that if the premium lane is there and they have announced that premium passengers can board at their leisure then some people will jump the queue.

As far as bypassing formed queues goes, I certainly could not do it. :shock:

I was not aware one could until I read about here in a couple of TR's.:-|

No, neither could I. ;) And in any case the plane is not going to leave without me so getting on board a few minutes later makes no difference at all.

I often deliberately board as late as possible, even if flying J and there are pre-flight drinks on offer, because ultimately the purpose of flying is to get to my destination, not to get to my seat before others.
 
Speaking of diminution of perks, when did pre take off champagne (more correctly sparkling) stop on QF lunch time flights in J? Last domestic J flight [last week] I was on it was only OJ and water. I'm sure last year it was still champers.

I can't remember the last time I was offered champagne on domestic J and I almost always fly in J. It has been orange juice or water for years. I am not sure whether this is the reason but there is some liquor licensing issue for QF when on the ground. You may be thinking about international J?

Ah yes, the giveaway is the use of the term "juice". The pre-flight drinks must have originally been chosen by a 10 year-old...or a civil engineer...

I asked for a glass of champagne SYD-PER in J about three weeks ago and the response was "sorry, we're only allowed to offer champagne before takeoff on international flights. The bar opens once we're in the air." Despite this, I've had champagne several times before takeoff on a J domestic flight.

That tallies with my understanding for domestic flights.

Not that long ago. Two or three flights in the second half of last year. They brought champagne around on the tray along with OJ and water.

Oh hang on. I just noticed that you are in Perth. QF operates a sort of hybrid "international-style" service from Perth to the eastern states, so that might explain it. Were any of these flights between, say, SYD and MEL or SYD and BNE or were they all to/from Perth?
