QF to Haneda

That might be right too, only time will tell! JL to BNE and QF from MEL would be nice.

I notice MEL-HND is about the same distance as SYD-HNL so the A330-300 seems like it would make the distance. Of course it could become an A330-200 route too which has eve more range.
Unlikely to be PER then?
QF pulled out of PER-NRT in late 2011. They pulled MEL-NRT in mid 2008.

I think one point is certain is that the current aircraft utilisation on the SYD > NRT sector that QF current has on roster, will be improved.
Aircraft has in excess of 12 hours on the ground presently at NRT, that's not efficient.

It's just so nice to hear of QF International expansion rather than contraction, whatever route they choose.

Precisely!

And let's not forget QF are seriously looking at a permanent return on the SYD > YVR sector in the near future as well!

Share price certainly a fan.
Guess though you can say if QF is planning new routes means QFi is making money.

I think one of the requirements for HND service is that the airline also maintain some amount of NRT service.
Simply retiming the current QF21/22 would allow for daily NRT and HND flights without any need for extra aircraft.

I think the share price is more of a fan of what made Santos have a bad day, falling oil prices.

Good to hear for QF.
Hopefully they do a day flight to Japan as I've just got off QF21 this morning and had a horrible sleep. I think I just have to accept I can't sleep on plans. :)

One would think that the business market of SYD would cater more to the HND option, while Tourists would suit NRT from either MEL or BNE which would be cheaper in terms of landing fees I imagine?

Could QF be possibly working with a *O partner through JAL? =o. I for one would certainly like to have more flights via the land of the sunrise with options further than that into north Asia rather.

Jetstar already fly between Cairns and Haneda don't they? (in a Dreamliner)
No. No Australian airline currently flies to Haneda. The Australia - Japan Air Service Treaty only allows for 7 return flights a week to Haneda. No one is yet to use them.

No idea at this time if QF requested the slots or if QF Group did. The news is not yet on the QF news room website and nothing is on the IASC site. In order to get the slots, QF has to go via IASC.

Landing and parking fees at Japanese airports are among the most expensive in the world. I'd have to go dig the numbers up again, but I don't recall there being much difference between fees at NRT and HND.

That would be nice. QF and JL currently codeshare between Tokyo and Australia via SIN. They used to codeshare on the BNE and PER flights before they were pulled in 2011/12. I think there is more codesharing on QF-GK and JL-JQ then on QF-JL.

You are not the only one complaining about that. I heard it from others too who choose to fly JL to NRT for that reason although their hard product is currently inferior (at least in J).
It will only get worse for QF when JL starts flying their refurbished B777s with better J product and an addition of F cabin (at least until QF swaps to the refurbished A330s).

Based off MTOW I assume.
Would put a 747-400 at 742,984 JPY (approx AU$7,400) per landing + surcharge and an A330 at 435,992JPY (approx AU$4,400).

It's always helpful to reference.

It's foolish if QF ignores BNE.

BNE-NRT was a very popular route. When JL was flying 747, it was always full. It was dropped mainly because JL went into bankruptcy not because of lack of demand.

OOL-NRT can't fulfil that demand. Getting to OOL from BNE is so inconvenient. There is no public transport and if you don't have a car or on one can pick you up, the only way is by private shuttles or taxi. Private shuttles only pick up people at ridiculously early hours (like 5am) in some designated spots in Brisbane and they don't service everyday. So if you need to depart or arrive on one of the days they don't service, taxi is your only option. It costs $200-300 rt on taxi, which negates any savings you have with JQ.

As a result, many Brisbanites would rather transit somewhere else. Unfortunately transiting in SYD is so inconvenient as it requires you to pick up your luggage and change terminal and then drop off your bags again! During summer, BNE is 1hr behind SYD, so to connect QF21 that departs at 20:30, you have to leave BNE at 16:00 at the latest, this many people who work very hard to leave on Fri after work.

So, many have gone with SQ or CX (and CI/BR to some extend) as they have late night departure flights (easy to go after work) and transit in SIN/HKG/TPE is seamless.

If QF would start BNE-TYO direct flight (whether NRT or HND, JQ or QF), I'm sure there will be lots of demand. If QF is concerned, maybe consider 3x/week BNE-HND, and 4x/week MEL-HND to fill up the 7 days slot and see how it goes.
