QF to launch SYD DFW from 16 May and axe SFO

A little sad to see SYD-SFO go... I personally can't see myself on a SYD-DFW any time soon, but I do see myself going on a few BNE-SYD trips . Best part about all this is there is again a B744 on (very limited) domestic ops... :D

The SYD-SFO-DFW option (which I am taking in March) will definitely disappear though (potential Jetstar possibilities aside)!
I don't buy into the SYD-SFO route on JQ. It is hard enough to travel that distance on a full service carrier and I cannot see how a LCC, especialy JQ, will make that length of flight a success.

The Brown Clan (5 of us, my daughter isn't interested in going) will book this.

I am Platinum, any chance we will ALL be offered PE seating on Y tickets? Hmmm that will be a good test. I think they will drag me down :-)

The cost for all of us is $5510 ex CBR - BARGAIN ! !

JB

Hi All,

I have done the booking for all of us (2 x Adults and 3 x kids).
We have been system allocated 38A, 38B, 38D, 39A & 39B.
PLEASE tell me this is PE seating (with Y service, of course)???? I am assuming so because otherwise we would have been seated 'together' with A,B,C asn opposed to A,B,D... right?

Thanks,
JB

By success you mean anything less than complete misery? Surely the type of customer that would choose JQ would either not care or not realise about the service. Though they'd probably come on here and make 1 post complaining like buggery afterward.

I agree however, I can't see any reason for JQ to go there. Then again this new QF route appears to have surprised people so I'm not too inclined to place any bets.

If it's an ER, then this would be your aircraft: http://www.qantas.com.au/infodetail/flying/inTheAir/ourAircraft/744ER-14P66J40W187Y.pdf

(So yes, PE as told above)

Re: .

If the seat selection map shows 2x4x2 in those rows then its PE seating.

Economy is 3x4x3.

Hi Serfty,

Unfortunately the 'Select Seat' button isn't active (until BPAY payment is received and it is ticketed) so I cannot see the seat map - and I am busting to!! :)

No. I actually meant make it a success like they have with all the other routes that should have been successful. Such as HNL, SGN, KUL etc. How hard can it be to service a route with very little competition and make it successful?

I agree however, I can't see any reason for JQ to go there. Then again this new QF route appears to have surprised people so I'm not too inclined to place any bets.
I am not so sure DFW is that much of a surprise. It has been discussed on AFF for a number of years now.

A Qantas staffer told me that the news of the DFW direct flights was leaked by the media. QF were not quite ready for it to go public, hence the confusion in some quarters.

Just got of the telephone from a lovely CSA on the premium desk who was full bottle on it.

It popped up on PPrune a few days ago, some of the early posts are good for a laugh with hindsight, this ones a corker:

Only 10 years in QF and I lost count a long time ago of how many of these destination rumours I've heard. It still amazes me how excited we get about them, until the rumour just fizzles out eventually.

As a rule, QF mainline doesn't open new destinations. It only closes off old ones or siphons them off to code-share or cheap offshoot airlines. Marketing gurus that our crowd are.

Well I will be happy to guest you into the F Lounge in SYD if you like... I have booked now... am returning on the following Saturday. Then back to London on the Tuesday:(

Sounds great, please pencil me in. Am also looking to return the following Sat.

Was looking at SYD-DFW JASA's in Oct / Nov and can't seem to see any for less than 480K each way

Anyone with a different experience?

Paddy

You wont see any bargains until the classic awards are loaded, which they dont appear to be at present.

I'm hanging out for those classic awards coming in, might be my best chance of assuring a skybed (or F if I'm lucky!) in an upcoming oneworld award.

E/F is showing U, Z and X classes for various flights on this route but they don't appear to be bookable.

Here are my random questions for the day.

The first flight goes to DFW. Am I correct in assuming the crew who will then do the flight back to Oz would have flown over a few days prior?

What are crew hours like on a flight like this? How long a delay before the flight is cancelled?
