I thought that was a Quick Check Machine (or some other random name), while NGCI refers to the shiny poles that glow green or red ;)

Well NGCI consists of the Quick Check Poles, the newer Quick Check Kiosks (that can also print paper bag routing tags) and the self-serve bag injectors.

Having a small set up of those and a couple of check-in desks for special needs / premium would make for a good throughput.

I recall in GLT they had the poles and the kiosks but not the injectors (though there were only 4 counters). With OOL I'd expect them to ditch the injectors too, at least until they find more space.

I know people are all excited about Qantas returning to Gold Coast but the airfares post opening sale are not that flash.

Slightly disappointing they are $99 for one-way non-sale and $85 when sales are on. I thought they would have tried to compete with Virgin airfares on the same route.

Maybe they're selling?

These are the fares currently on offer for a flight I booked on for $48:

Why discount something when you can sell it for more.

Checkin kiosks for three flights a day? Sounds to me like they are planning many more flights and destinations in the near future ;)
I agree they will increase the flights too - although a while off yet, the Commonwealth Games would be part of the reason they have returned.

What are the VA fares normally... having a quick look, they appear to be $79 standard fare and $69 when on sale? When you factor in luggage, snack, beverages, IFE, QF are only marginally more expensive. Looks like they are trying to compete but not looking to match VA in price.

At those prices, JQ is the only equal (admittedly that doesn't take into account a lack of status recognition, but near enough).

I dont compare QF with DJ/JQ ot TT ,I look at what looks good value for the Qantas service I get. $99 year year on a jet all inclusive to me is a bargain with Lounge access at both ends of route(well when OOL opens). I appreciate others chop and change carriers for $5. Thats not important to .OOL expands the network that I can avoid JQ

I don't see why QF should've just considered putting NGCI from the get go. Even a compact set up has more throughput than a few check-in counters alone.

Either QF doesn't seem as committed to the Gold Coast as we would be lead to believe, or it's saying something about what QF thinks of the overall intelligence and/or sophistication of Gold Coast flyers.

You could say the same about Tasmania(ns) - there is no NGCI (or PB) at HBA.. :o

Does anyone think they might start up other QF OOL routes like OOL-MEL?

If the loads for SYD-OOL are strong then I think the growth is guaranteed. At the time of launching I recall QF saying they would look at expanding. The Gold Coast have the Commonwealth Games has to help pull one of the sponsors back into the fold.

I would think it's crazy to invest so much (considering the lounge) on just the two dailys if they aren't projecting further uptake. See how the loads are and where connections are coming from and go from there. Obviously the other side of this is providing clean int. connections though the QF fortress hub/centre of the universe.

So without a lounge, I assume they'll be handing out vouchers? My first flights in/out aren't until early December so will be listening on progress.

I hope not, there's a lot of SC to be had flying through SYD ;)
The trouble with taking advantage of those SCs, is that it only re-enforces the need for expansion to other routes. Bit of a catch-22, so we will just take advantage while we can!
