QF Understocking the Champers?

I'm happy to confirm that it's in fact the opposite. We've recently increased the number of bottles loaded in First and Business across the network. Cheers! :)

i have PM'ed red roo to confirm the above statement in light of someboi's trip report titled Air India J DEL-SYD (AFF trip report section) from where the following is extracted:

Crew were friendly and the service was friendly and casual. To be honest I was a bit underwhelmed with the QF F experience. For e.g. 2 hours into the flight I was told that they had run out of CdC champagne...

running out at two hours into the flight? maybe they had the PR available, but on my last flight I was to,d they hadn't loaded any.

if this represents an 'increase' in the number of bottles it is concerning.

I can confirm that there was a plentiful supply of the 2002 Pol Roger Winston Churchill aboard QF 9 a couple of weeks ago :D

thats great... if you like it!

unfortunately I'm not a fan of any of the pol rogers :( (I'd there is no choice like on Swiss a couple years back I drink the NV)

i just want what is advertised. how can it be so difficult??

That's what was on the menu

from the qantas website...

Qantas is proud to offer our First customers one of the most highly awarded selections of wine in the skies, including two of Champagne's most revered, prestige cuvees from the celebrated 2000 vintage, the Taittinger Comtes De Champagne Blanc De Blancs 2000 and Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill 2000.

my last menu listed both... but the PR hadn't been loaded.

I think it's an either or with the bubbly. I've never personally been offered a choice.
All but one previous flight have had the Comtes de Taittinger but not Pol Roger.

Maybe Red Roo could confirm ?

the PR is significantly cheaper. maybe that explains it.

regardless.. the trip report (which is recent) confirms the taittinger ran out two hours into the flight.

The PR WC is within 10-15% of the CdC.

interesting... I checked dan murphy (I know qf will get it wholesale and duty free) but dans was charging $238 for the pol roger and $283 for the taittinger. about $50 difference a bottle. multiply that by (at least) 5 bottles per flight (excluding whatever the crew decide to hand out to platinums in lower cabins) and that a saving of $250 per sector. that would add up significantly over a year.

just on my bad math... I work out there are about 14 first class sectors a day? (4x Australia-dxb and vv, 4x dxb-LHR and vv, hkg and back, and MEL + syd to lax and back)... that's 14 x $250 savings, times 365 days a year works out to about $1.2 million saving!

even if it was $30 difference a bottle... that gives me a saving of some $700k a year based on 5 bottles per sector (and I would expect there to be much more than that consumed).

CdC is $250/bottle on Epiqure, albeit the 1999. Interesting the 2000 is more expensive when 1999 is generally considered a better vintage in Champagne.

I'm a huge fan of Pol Roger and can't wait till 25 Nov when Paddy Jnr and I are travelling in First on QF1... hoping the stocks last until then

I respectfully disagree, and can personally confirm the 2000 is far better than the 99.

Interesting. How many different champagnes from each of those two vintages have you tried that you came to this conclusion? Or you specifically referring to the CdC?

they're serving the 2000 on board IIRC? so we are looking at almost $50 a bottle difference. saving over $1 million a year.

correction, they often don't stock enough or any... so saving even more.

Specifically the CdC, 2000 was a better year, and while 1999 wasn't bad, it wasn't exceptional. Same in about 3 or 4 others I've tried of those vintages.

Saying all that, I wouldn't turn down a 1999 CdC ;)

Look...I really think you should confirm your comments by re-testing...you know, just to be on the safe side and all ;)
