Hi all - i will be booking a trip to Europe for next year using Qantas FF points. I want to fly from Sydney via Singapore to Paris i.e. one stop. I want to come home departing Rome and stopping in HK then Sydney - one stop again.

I'm sure that I could find this itinerary on the Qantas FF site search when I was playing around with it a couple of months ago but now it tells me that I have to do an extra stop via Heathrow, which I don't want. This is even the case if I pick dates a year out.

What's going on ? is it because the flights I need are via codeshare partners or are they only available on certain days of the week ?

(would also welcome any other advice regarding booking flights for travel within Europe. We are looking at Sept next year and I'll need flights from northern Spain/Biarritz area to Switzerland, Austria to Malta and Malta to Italy). thanks...

with QF points, you have 2 options. they are to either book a QF flight or book a oneworld flight.

Either way, you'd have to find a oneworld or QF flight from SIN to paris, and there are not any. You'd have to fly to LHR and then take another flight (probably BA) to Paris

noddy, welcome to AFF.

The route SYD-SIN-CDG (Paris) is not operated directly by Qantas. The SIN-CDG is operated by Air France as a codeshare service for Qantas. So you can purchase a paid fare to Paris with a Qantas flight number, but the SIN-CDG sector is operated by Air France.

Now for an FF classic award redemption, you cannot fly on the Air France operated service since Air France is not a Qantas Frequent Flyer partner airline and you cannot redeem FF awards on Qantas codeshare flights (well there are a few exceptions to the codeshare restriction, but not that flght). However, you may be able to use the new Qantas Anyseat Awards for the codeshare flight.

The return flight is FCO (Rome) - HKG-SYD. The FCO-HKG will be operated by Cathay Pacific. The same restrictions apply regarding non-availability of Classic awards for codeshare flights. However, QF FF points can be used for a classic award using Cathay Pacific on that segment. But, Cathay Pacific flights do not show availability for award flights on the QF FF web site, so you have to call Qantas FF and book over the phone and they will try to charge you the telephone booking surcharge of 2500 points.

It may be better to route to CDG via LHR and back FCO-HKG-SYD on Cathay Pacific and make it a OneWorld Award. That will provide the ability to stopover in SIN, LHR or HKG along the way if you choose.

I'd go both ways via HK so you can go cathay direct into CDG and skip both LHR and FCO.

thanks everybody. i'd prefer to minimise flights, so it looks like cathay both ways via HK is the go.

ok, i think i've worked out the best way to do this. i've got about 380K points and there are 4 of us traveling. i had been thinking of using FF point to pay for 3 return flights from europe and then paying cash for the fourth ticket.

instead of that, i can pay for the Syd-Sing, Rome-HK and HK-SYD legs for the four of us using my FF miles and just pay cash for the four Sing-Paris flights.

This leaves me with two questions:

a previous poster suggested that I could buy Qantas code share Air France flights that would get me on a direct Sing-Paris flight. however, when I go to the qantas web site and try to purchase tickets, i only get an option to go via LHR (no direct flight comes up), so how do I purchase the direct flight via qantas ? (if i go to the france air site the flights are twice the price of the qantas site for some reason).

I was hoping to fly direct from Rome to HK but it looks like i have to have a stop (helsinki). Is this correct, no direct qantas flights from Rome to HK ? Thanks again.

Sounds like a timetable thing, have you checked other days.

This flight should be with cathy, according to the other posts I wouldn't expect this to be via helsinki. Have you checked the flight numbers/airline.

No doubt others here will be able to help better than me.
