I've been looking at seat maps for flights close to the launch of QF Y+ to see whether the aircraft are operating before the launch (possibly selling as normal Y).

I haven't had any luck finding anything. Has anyone else?

The first aircraft fitted with premium economy will not be ready until February/March 2008 so I would not expect to see them scheduled for any services yet.

This far out they may not know which particular aircraft is operating which sectors, so unlikely to be on the seat maps yet.

Yes it will be possible to sit in the Y+ cabin before the official launch on 01APR08. Mark has pointed out that Qantas hasn't allocated particular aircraft to particular routes for that part of 2008 yet, so you'll just have to wait.

I am under the impression that there will be some more news out soon (information that the media won't release or pick up on though) concerning which aircraft will first get the Y+ upgrade. Stay tuned...

Cheers

For those interested, Qantas 747-400 VH-OJK "Newcastle" will be the first aircraft to receive the new Premium Economy product. I don't think the aircraft will be upgraded until late January at the earliest.

Do remember that the Y+ cabin won't officially launched until 01APR08 so there will be an opportunity to fly on it before this date. Do remember that if you manage to score a Y+ seat, you will still receive the same service and amenities as available in the main cabin.

I imagine Qantas will allocate the Y+ seats to its high tier FFers or other select pax like when a 3-class 744 operates a 2-class flight (eg. FRA). Heck, they may even allocate it on first serve basis (like when AO was operating with Millennium configured 767s).

Cheers

Thanks for that!

I can't remember but do the 747's when they are refurbed with Y+, get their J seats tweaked to be lie flat, the new F and Y refurbed as well?

I know QF are redoing the domestic Y product and it looks and feels fantastic - like a brand new plane, so would assume they will be doing this at the same time?

Lie-falt skybeds will be restricted to the A380's for quite some time. It's more than a simple tweak unfortunately - look at the A380 J cabin and there's a LOT more room in front of each seat, to accommodate the fully-flat bed.

Mind you, IMO, the 747 Skybed isn't a bad product to be "stuck" with for a while. :)

Cheers,
- Febs.

I agree 100%! My favourite J seat as it is already.

Hey mate, no worries. Most, if not all 747-400s will get new fabrics, curtains and carpet throughout the aircraft (F/J/Y). There's a few aircraft flying around now with the refreshed look.

During the Y+ upgrade only the Recaro Y+ seats will be installed and there may be some minor modifications around the Y+ cabin. The aircraft will receive the new fabrics, curtains and carpets also, if it does not already have them.

The 744s will not be receiving Skybed v2.0 during upgrades or at any other stage. You have to remember (for Skybed 2.0 which will debut on the A380) that there is a new shell and the seat extends into a fully flat bad, which consumes alot more space than its predecessor.

Qantas is also continuing to rollout the new carpets, curtains and fabrics throughout the domestic Jet fleet.

Summary

Kangaroo configured 747-400s (14F/50J/315Y) will receive:
[NB select Kangaroo configured 744s may not receive Y+]

Premium Economy (32 seats)
New fabrics, curtains and carpets

Pacific configured 747-400s (14F/64J/265Y) will receive:
[NB select Pacific configured 744s may not receive Y+]

Premium Economy (up to 40 seats)
New fabrics, curtains and carpets

I also agree with you here. There are a lot worse options available than the current QF 'J' Skybed :!:

From memory I think some pax and airlines call those seats economy, coach, and pax may even call them - WHY.

But sersiously Wunala Dreaming excellent information, thanks

Thanks for the kind comments jakeseven7 & Reggie :)

Yes, jakeseven7, that is my website (from which I do not profit in any way or form I might add)

It's great as it not only is for my own personal reference, it also doubles as a site for the flying public and interested parties to refer to. It's time consuming having to update and maintain the information, but it's a labour of love.

Some people couldn't give a toss about the information on the website, but it's nice to see that most people find it useful and are interested in it.

There should be some more information about the 2nd 747-400 to receive Y+ in the coming weeks. Do remember that before Y+ makes a debut in APR, your best chance of getting a Y+ seat with Y services is on SYD-BKK-LHR (QF1) and vv on select days from mid-Feb.

Cheers

CathayTalk is probably the place to go for any CX gossip, plane information etc.

Bit OT here but i read in the CX inflight mag this morning on my TPE-HKG flight that they have ordered another 13 i think A333's.

Also i noticed HKG-CMB & SIN-CMB are in there inflight map, either not removed from when they stopped ages ago or going to start flights again soon ?

Looks likes there's been some delays with the installation of the Premium Economy product on VH-OJK. Was supposed to return to service today.

Should be about another week before it's flying...

I'll be sure to post some more information when it recommences flying. Remember that for about 1 month the aircraft will be flying with the Y+ cabin being sold as Economy...

Cheers

Yes, they are starting again.

Cathay Pacific Airways today announced that it will resume its passenger services to and from Colombo, the capital city of Sri Lanka, with effect from 30 March 2008. The airline will operate a daily service using a Boeing 777-300 aircraft routed through either Bangkok or Singapore.

Three flights a week, operating as CX703, will go via Bangkok every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, departing Hong Kong at 18.35 and arriving in Colombo at 00.15 the next day. The return CX700 service departs Sri Lanka at 01.45, arriving in Hong Kong at 12.10.

On all other days of the week the flight will be routed through Singapore. CX711 departs Hong Kong at 16.15 and arrives in Sri Lanka at 22.45, while the return CX710 service departs Colombo at 00.15 on the following day and lands in Hong Kong at 12.15.
