QF156 - taxiing but returns to Gate, why?

I remember watching the finale of the Amazing Race where an AA767 returned to the gate at SJN to pick up the second placed couple. Cameras were running and it was clear which airline it was. The first place couple were on the plane (Rob and Hope) were not happy about it :mad:and when at the destination MIA they were in fact beaten by the second place couple, and lost the $1M first prize.:(

Returning to the gate isn’t a simple operation. And for a passenger, pretty much unheard of.

You will need the engineers to come back. Aerobridge operator(s). Tug. And hopefully the gate is still available.

A compassionate case perhaps. AJ...not a chance in hell.

Mind you, I did have to go back once to get rid of someone who should not have been on board. One of the gate agents.....but I had to stop laughing before I could park.

Don't forget what happened in Christchurch that day, it maybe was a little bit of extra compassion due to that event.
Who knows?

I was on an AirNZ flight where we were stuck at the gate over an hour. We didn’t push back though.

The pilot said they (?) realised someone had forgotten to get an accessibility needs client off another plane and transport them, but by no means was it the passengers fault so don’t give them dirty looks when they get on.

Would a VIP jet being 'instructed' to return to Air Movements after taxiing, to collect another pack of TimTams for a certain politician who'd already eaten the pack on board qualify as similar? Apparently...
