Just received a "your flight has changed" email from Qantas. Expecting to see a minor detail like a 5 minute time adjustment, instead I'm being routed home through Sydney now.

The lady in reservations didn't have much info, other than the direct BNE-MNL-BNE flights are suspended effective 27 October.

Pretty slack if you ask me.

Isn't it due to runway works in BNE?

I am fairly sure there is information as to why this is occurring, and it has been posted on here.

I opened a similar thread in the QF section yesterday. I was routed SYD-BNE on QF19 for some Flounge time.

I was told instead of a solely Thursday routing via BNE it'd be Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Thus my flight couldn't be met. Was also told its increasing to daily, where it wasn't before. Or maybe vice versa. Would be grateful to see the new schedule.

Was on QF 19 on the 5th November but have now been transferred to CX MEL-HKG then MNL which actually suits me better not having to go VIA Sydney. It is due to a summer schedule change. Spoke to Andrea in Plat Line she has been exceptionally helpful.

I'd still love to know more details. Like change to when, and how often etc ;)

Timetable on the QF website already shows no BNE routing (SYD-MNL-SYD flights on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays this week and Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays during the Northern Winter schedule).

Another F-run bites the dust :(

Nah, the bulk of that runway work is done, and the cross runway is open again - which was, I believe, the reason for an earlier suspension of flights direct to Manila.

Seems this is happening quite a lot recently.

The writing has been on the wall for a while.

Mmm.. Not sure if there was/is any official notice from QF outlining the decision & reason for such.

Not about this specific route.

It is the whole international operation. PER, ADL, SIN, BKK, HKG and now MNL.

I don't think the prediction a few years ago that QF will only be flying to LHR and LAX are too far from the mark. The rest will be taken over by the orange cancer to butcher as they see fit.

Think this is right on the mark. If you look at PER-SIN flights for 27 and 28 Sep, there are lots of Y seats available on QF on its 1 flight a day for each day and only 3 Y seats available in total for both those days on SQ and it has 3 flights a day!!! Just waiting for QF to cancel this route as well. They dont realise that the more they cut capacity the less reason there is to fly their airline not simply fill up the remaining planes they leave on the route.

I would argue there are not a lot of seats available:

27th - looks like no Y and overselling using J
Fare Classes: J/9 C/9 D/9 I/9 U/0 Y/9 B/9 H/9 K/9 M/0 L/0 V/3 S/0 N/0 Q/0 O/0 G/0 X/0 E/0

28th looks similar

Classes: J/9 C/9 D/9 I/9 U/0 Y/9 B/9 H/9 K/1 M/0 L/0 V/7 S/0 N/0 Q/0 O/0 G/0 X/0 E/0

QF are happy to oversell Y using J, SQ less so, so I fact it's likely that there are hardly any Y seats on offer with either.

The direct QF BNE-MNL service change happened around the same time as the PR flights commenced. Now I notice that JQ has been brought in to match that service. Both options are unattractive alternatives due to the Darwin stopover in the middle of the night.

I have watched the flight prices and it looks like SQ is now coming up as an alternate. I just looked at some dates recently it was a spread of about A$150 between the three of them. I can't see a QF service fitting back into this.

As it is one of my frequented flight sectors BNE/MNL, I'll consider reverting back to SQ.
It appears QF have lost interest in this sector & I'm uncertain about the longevity of PR maintaining these sectors & the issue of DRW stop irks me somewhat.

One issue I find disillusioned about, the flight loads on the QF19 & 20 are consistently high & additionally considering there would be substantial freight revenue.
I guess the QF bean counters have all the answers though..

Well, that was the reason they gave us anyway. And as you have pointed out, is no longer the case. What annoys me here is that this was probably QF's intention, and they are not allowing themselves to be held accountable for cutting yet another route, but instead trying to get away with this without anyone noticing...

Those who frequent this service will notice and many might take their business elsewhere.

Is this more of QF's "Asian strategy"?
