IS this route indefinitely operated by 733 between MEL and AKL and 744 AKL and LAX? No plans to upgrade the MEL/AKL segment to a 744? What happens to all those J pax from a 744 who can't fit on a 733 on the equipment change in AKL (should QF be so lucky with J loads)?

Would QF25/26 not be operated by 734/738's?

QF and Jetconnect have retired the last remaining 733's that they had in commercial service a few months ago.

As for any plans to bring a 744 back onto the route, I can not answer that for you.

The smaller number of J class seats on the 737 portion of the journey would no doubt figure in the number of seats they decide to sell on the two parts of the journey.

Most J passengers travelling between LAX and MEL choose to fly QF93/94 rather than 25/26. It normally only people on award tickets that take QF25/26 through as their can be limited availability on QF93/94.

Most definitely a 737 - either 734 or 73H*. The 73H are only a few months old but still are limited to the 12 J seats (however, all the 73H seats on these new aircraft have PIFE).

I am thinking this lack of J capacity is causing some headaches - see this thread:

* (Although QF's last 733 is still occasionally operating - I saw it parked at AKL yesterday; it last operated commercial flights 7 days ago between AKL and BNE.)

I miss the B744 (even the B743's) on this route... :(

I'd start a petition asking QF to bring back the B744's if I thought it would do any good... (anyone else willing to sign?)

I'm still a little puzzled as to why they got rid of the B744's from the route in the first place? I used to fly that route very frequently, and the flights where usually full (including on the 9th of June, the very last QF25 MEL - AKL to be operated by a B744)... Coincidentally I flew back on that trip on AirNZ as a way of protesting...

An award is what I am looking at - QF93 is available outbound in J but only QF26 available inbound. mrs alect have to "slum it" on the way home.

And for awards you take whatever you can get. QF is not going change the QF25/26 MEl-AKL-MEL operating aircraft just to make it more attractive for award redemptions. Anyone on a paid fare is going to choose QF93.94 unless there is no availability.

Agreed that as a flight from MEL - LAX it was probably nothing special (don't know never flown from MEL - LAX, usually go to SFO and from SYD). But as a flight from MEL - AKL as far as I was concerned it couldn't be beat...

All they have done IMHO is made it an even less attractive option for going from MEL - LAX (who wants to sit on a 737 for 3 to 4 hours prior to changing to a real plane in AKL?), and they are effectively rolling over and letting the like of EK have the TT market (who are flying 777's, A340's, A380's), one which if they put their best planes onto is one which they could own...
