Normal, run of the mill, QFd flight, ADL - MEL, 8.05am, then got the dreaded message, "You are checked in, please collect boarding pass at the airport".
Wonder why.
Will come back tomorrow morning and report on here.
Flight is not linked to QFi.

Probably the flight is about to be cancelled ? or they have moved you to a different flight?

Already booked in J, so most likely I am going to be stuffed down the back in Y.
Very unlikely they would want me in the CL... (?).

Over the past 14 or so days, on flightaware/flightradar, the flight hasn't been cancelled.
But yeap, maybe either moved to Y, or that its going to be cancelled, and I put onto next flight, but thats ok, my flight MEL - AKL is on Fri, different PNR with AirNZ.

For domestic ? I don't think so ...

that being said, for the past three or so weeks, check in staff at QFd are asking for ID ... may be it is for ID check, perhaps?
Yes it’s (historically) rare to be checked, but maybe they are on a blitz (or acting on some directive?), maybe “random” selection, or a certain amount of time or flights has occurred since the OP was identify checked.

I’m not sure there is published info out there re: identity verification on domestic services, but that seems a logical rationale To me anyway.

Perhaps @AustraliaPoochie can enquire when he attends to collect his BP why it didn’t get produced electronically?

Perhaps it is one of the AY birds operated on behalf of QF. One could only hope at least!

Probably selected as having Dangerous Goods. Or selected an Exit Row with answering 'No'

If the flight is cancelled, the check-in page wouldn't have been showing and a rebook flight page would be displayed instead.

Those just appear and you get notified and options, it won't be to goto counter.

Ive seen this pop up on a few other groups with QF so it might be some sort of security blitz they're doing.

As mentioned, I am on way to NZ, but not on link PNR.
So, I can't pre print BP, and if they have as of late, been cancellations, or putting onto another flight, that might be it.
Or put down to Y.
If they are going to take away printing of BP at the airport, this will only just make the queue worst at the airport.
Have a night at the Atura tonight, so will get out to the dom check in area area early and see what they say.
No kiosk printing of BP, as we have read of late, as QFd taking them away already at MEL T1.
Will have a look later tonight, visual look first, before tomorrow.

Strange.
Kiosks indeed can't print QF BP, but one staff member at service desk was able to print after I explained my situation.
I didn't want to prod.
Waste of paper and printer ink.
QFd should not have facility to say "collect BP at airport".
What if no or very busy situations.
Hopefully my future flights will be better.
But who knows, maybe QF do not want people with fake names to fly, vis a vis Aust govt rules ie flying under false names not allowed.

Do you need a boarding pass for domestic flights? I thought once you have checked in you can just tap your QFF card on the boarding pass scanner during boarding.

Not everyone who flies has a QFF card.
Not everyone who flies has a smart phone, or one that is compatible with a given app.
Not everyone has a printer at home.

Removing the ability to get a boarding pass at the airport is incredibly stupid.

Agree removing the boarding passes is stupid. But ultimately OLCI is over 80% for domestic flights now on QF.

Completely agree with you here. Sometimes I will keep the physical boarding pass in case I need to claim the status credits / points back with the airline later as it is not always a guarantee they will post and sometimes airlines won't accept digital boarding passes for such claims. With that being said, it is helpful to know that things like QFF cards can help you in a pinch (i.e. your smartphone running out of juice).

Another annoyance is the downsizing and / or removal of physical check in counters. Like how the heck am I supposed to check my luggage in without a counter and rep to talk to? Some will point to self-tag bag machines, but if I wanted that I would fly EasyJet. Additionally, sometimes those machines do not work in a pinch. There have been times where I could not check-in online with JétStar, Qantas' luxury airline arm, and when I head to the kiosk I am told to check in at a physical boarding pass (most likely because I play the JétStar seat lottery, putting off my check in to the very last minute so that I can score an extra leg room seat at no cost).

At ADL QFd it's all DIY now.
Just 2 columns pillar with computer hidden in it.
Plus the single slot desk.
You are supposed to print out your hold bag rag and put it on handle and use their tray to put it into hole slot in wall upstairs.
Got into lounge ok.
