That's got to be one of the best intro's ever. LOL

QF have decided that people flying on other airlines should not be using the lounge. I think that's entirely fair. If you want to fly on another airline - use their lounge.
I knew I had forgotten something!!
Arrivals lounge access at LHR for WP, regardless of travel class, would certainly keep my business with QF.
Well, I have been pondering the question again for the last day or so. What would make me want to spend more money with Qantas? Truth be told there isn't many suggestions in the thread that are tangible changes that would make me want to spend more money with Qantas. That's not to say that the vast majority of suggestion are not good ideas that I'd like to see.
Thinking about it the biggest thing that would make me want to spend more with qantas is to make me feel that you appreciate my business and that we have a 2 way relationship. I see Qantas say often that they are a premium airline. I often see Qantas asking for a premium fare. But I don't see premium when I fly with Qantas, what I see instead is cost cutting. What do I get when I fly? I get to my destination, I get mostly a snack (complete waste of time) or a below average breakfast. I also get booze at night, which seems to be like a massive feeding/drinking frenzy. You know Virgin Blue will also get me to my destination and those extras on board just aren't really worth paying premium price for a premium airline, as they just scream cheap to me.
With that situation the extras really need to step up to the plate and "show me the love". It has to be special. At the moment with the latest changes platinum just isn't that special. By all means improve quality in the air, service and staff happiness. But those a worthwhile to all passengers. You need something for all status levels that justifies having got to that level. In general each level has put in twice as much flying with qantas as the next lower status level.
I just hope this general idea is part of the process in filtering the ideas here.
(I've been pondering replying to this for fear of harping on, ad naseum - anyway publish and be dammed.)
It is fair enough for Qantas to say use the other airlines lounge. However, I thought the idea was to encourage people to be loyal to Qantas. The problem with saying use their lounge is that then encourages me to spend more money with the competition. Firstly, I might decide to buy their lounge membership. The next logical step having done that, as a platinum flyer, is to switch flights to the competition so that I can get lounge membership cheaper or for free. Platinum status involves plenty of flying to be able to switch some and hence get lounge access with both airlines.
Basically this move says that we don't value your loyalty. We don't owe you a thing and we are going to leave you out in the cold if you don't fly with us, even if your going somewhere that qantas doesn't fly. One response to that situation is to decide that the customer equally doesn't owe anything to Qantas. As they say, you get more bees with honey than with vinger.
I see Qantas is getting involved in LA Galaxy match.
Let me redeem 100,000 points to watch the game from a booth with other AFFers and I will keep flying Qantas.

Hopefully Red Roo is busy with the big whiteboard, the boardroom, the marketing girls and boys, the spreadsheet of ideas, and hopefully using the Blue marker more than the Red one before funnelling ideas up the chain in a way that they don't get "filed".....
One can only dream
I wonder where red roo has gone?
Yes Medhead.
I agree, in all seriousness I think it's fantastic that Red Roo is here.
Even if he's just lurking in the background, it's definitely a positive step that QF is listening and taking an interest.
Fingers are crossed for genuine positive improvements (rather than "enhancements") in the future
An upgrade request is just that - a request. One is never 'guaranteed' an upgrade, and to expect this of the programme is a little unrealistic. Your points value collected for an upgrade request doesn't come anywhere near the revenue they could make off the premium seat if they sold it.I find it a double-whammy that you usually cannot points upgrade from the cheapest fares, but even if you fork out the extra dollars for an upgradeable fare you're still not guaranteed the upgrade. One or the other would be more acceptable, neither at all would be best.
Barcelona, or Inter Milan would perhaps be worth that much points
Those who extoll the virtues of the AA instant upgrade fares fail to note that their First domestic product isn't even as good as the QF economy product IMO (although provides good status run opportunities...). Not to mention they're nearly bankrupt.
