Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Attempted to secure 2 J seats on QF 12 (LAX>SYD) on July 21 as ExpertFlyer was showing J9 C9 D9 I9 and was rejected (this time after a 5 minute wait). Fortunately I noticed AA opened up 2 J seats to SYD from SFO (via LAX) on the 22nd and ended up booking that.

Will be interesting to try the AA business flight experience.

Had availability showing for 2 dates I wanted BNE-xMEL-CGK, got the 15079 - 23951 - 421 error.

Phoned up, they couldn't see it. Tried the entire week for release, via MEL and SYD with no luck. Very odd.

Needed a seat home from North America during a peak school holiday time, when not even economy rewards were available online. Figuring it'd be tough and I wouldn't get exactly what I wanted, I put through a batch request. Turns out, I could have just asked for my first preference and been sorted. 😂

YVR-SYD-MEL, biz, approved
SFO-SYD-MEL, biz, approved
LAX-SYD-MEL, first (w/ biz domestic), approved - but denied for biz on the same LAX-SYD flight
LAX-MEL, biz, denied, ha

Attempted to secure 2 J seats on QF74 for July 21. ExpertFlyer was showing J9 C9 D5 I2. Decided to give them a call since we were dealing with positive I inventory and it would be nice to travel back to Australia in J nonstop from SYD versus flying coach via LAX. Short story long, the request was rejected.

I'm curious if things could change further down the line (i.e. as we get closer to departure date). For instance, suppose that flight remains J9 C9 10 days out and now it shows I9 (or a high I number) would that impact the odds the computer would accept the request?

It sure does. I have been rejected many months in advance, only to have the seats released a week out from travel. My advice would be slot set alerts on Expert Flyer to alert you when “I” inventory is above ….

Denied 2xJ QF72 in September after Singapore F1 Weekend at J9 C9 D9 I7
After being denied yesterday on the phone, had an email this morning to saying "action required". A pnr was created but it still says "requested" as opposed to confirmed. Any reason to get my hopes up or call?

I have not had success with this. If SA took your call then this is the process they use.

Yeah I never bother wasting my time with “requested”. Call back if it becomes “confirmed”.

Probably a denial unfortunately
Yep, called up to request a few other adjacent dates (2x X rewards denied against Q9) and they confirmed this was a denial.

First time I haven't been able to get something to work, but also the first time I was trying to request something international adjacent to school hols and a major event!

Had this happen earlier this year. It did not show on the desktop but the app kept reminding me until the June date passed.

Requested for the following seats in business:

QF2 SIN-SYD 27 Apr I5 denied
QF36 SIN-MEL 27 Apr I4 denied
QF38 SIN-MEL 27 Apr I7 denied

QF25 SYD-HND 30 May I6 approved

QF80 NRT-MEL 8 June I2 denied
QF62 NRT-BNE 8 June I3 approved

Looks like the post Easter weekend is a no-go, but I'm surprised the 8th of June got approved at I3.

For anyone looking to request for seats on the 8th of June for the lounge crawl, I got rejected for QF80 with "allocation exhausted".

Edit: QF2 SIN-SYD 30 Apr I9 approved. Requesting on a Wednesday must be the way to go now!

Requested 2x U seats released to help start and finish our OWA itinerary next year, thinking it'd be a longshot.....

QF7 SYD-DFW 12 May I2 - approved
QF10 LHR-PER 3 June I8 - approved

Feeling like I lucked out a bit here. I had also asked for the day after for each flight and both of those were approved too!

Are you WP or WP1?

WP :) Was genuinely anticipating the LHR-PER leg to be denied.

I've had pretty good experiences with seat releases so far, and am very grateful to this thread and everyone who's posted with advice to not bother on weekends/school holidays and aim for weekdays. On an earlier iteration of the same PNR I had SYD-HND successfully released (in order to catch a HND-DFW flight I'd found with the online tool) and JFK-SYD released to get home - but the timings of the new flights worked better for me being based in Perth.

The agent was in Fiji today - needed a bit of back and forth to get her to understand the 318K rule but we got there in the end :p Didn't want to believe it had all gone through until the eTicket number came through!
