QFF Platinum requesting release of extra Classic Reward seats?

First time hitting WP so apologies for the noob question.
Wanted to confirm that one can only put in a request for the release of a CR seat for QF flight numbers on QF metal? For example QF4025 SYD-SIN which is operated on JL metal would not be eligible.

Correct - QF has no say over partner inventory

Correct, you can not request inventory on codeshares.

The only way to book an award seat on that particular flight is under the JL36 flight number rather than QF4025.

QF4025 is also SIN-HND, not SYD-SIN. Definitely stick to QF metal for these seat requests 😉

I have had a bit of success requesting seats to get to/ from the 2025 asian lounge crawl from NRT I picked a random date some 7-10 days before the crawl as I normally take a mid year break. All 4 QF flights AU-JP were approved by the bot so I just picked the one that worked best for me from ADL. Getting out of NRT on the day of the crawl was also easy and QF ponied up flights from NRT-MEL connecting to ADL. Not that they can be requested but for anyone interested in going to the Crawl JL773 also has good availability in J (my plan B).

Question, can I ask for release for my brother? Also I know most look for J but I assume Y release is also possible.

I've successfully released for family before, and Y is definitely possible (with very good chances)
Cheers, my brother was messaging me about booking a C+ before I told him to hold his horses.

I'll look for him once I get back from Tokyo. (Bloody hot here).

SYD-SIN - 1xU midweek dates late July
  • QF1 denied across a 2 day range (was showing I4 and I9)
  • QF291 for the same days, both options approved at I4 and I1 respectively
SIN-SYD - 1xU early August
  • QF292 approved showing I4. Availablility went straight to I0 after booking finalised

no issue with family members - points will need to come from your account - depending on your relationship, he can then transfer the points to your from his account... It pays to mention this early on in the call that you are not the passenger as some consultants start making the booking in your name from the start of the call and when you mention further on that it is for a family member they have to start again...

When trying for one seat to North America later this year:
  • MEL-SYD-YVR, I7, Business, denied (well, MEL-SYD got approved 🤣, but kind of wanted to go to Canada...)
  • MEL-DFW, I3, Business, denied
  • MEL-SYD-LAX, I6, Business, approved
  • MEL-LAX, A8, First, approved 👀
With two approvals, now comes the hard part... deciding whether I want to pay more points and fly F earning fewer SC as Points Club – but with the convenience of a direct flight and the novelty of using the kerbside F check-in in MEL which I haven't visited in years, or save some points and fly J through SYD (5hr layover so ample F Lounge time) and earn more SC from the connection in J than I'd get flying direct in F. 🤣 I feel there's no 'wrong' decision here, but I am leaning towards the J option given I can already visit the F lounge via status, and J is perfectly comfortable. Did QF First LAX-SYD about a year ago and wasn't wowed by the F&B over and above J. Am I crazy thinking of booking J rather than F when both are available? 🤣

I had a very interesting experience this week.. Requested WGA-SYD-PER J return, which was granted (with an overnight transit in SYD, less than 24hrs) Quoted 41,500 p/p each way. 49,500 points deducted p/p each way.

Phoned back and told it would be rectified in 48hours. Nope 👎

Phoned back again and told the same thing. Nope 👎

Phoned back and was transferred to the Awards Team, which I am pretty sure is against protocol. I was advised that there was a problem with the auto points calculation not liking the overnight transits and treating the overnight as a stop over, not a transit. Told that it would need to be a manual process and will be rectified in 48 hours. Nope 👎

Phoned back again after 48 hours and was told that a transit is less than 12 hours, not 24 hours and this was the reason that the system was calculating the points on the two flights separately. I stated that the t & c’s of the Frequent Flyer Program state that a transit is up to 24 hours.. I was then told that it has recently changed to 12 hours and that on this occasion they would refund the point difference. Points received within the hour.

I think 24hr transit is for international itineraries.

I feel like Domestic has always been same-day.

You got lucky. As muppet said, a transfer can only be on the same calendar on a domestic itinerary. You had a stopover:

''Stopover' in relation to:
(a) an Australian domestic Itinerary, means a break of journey at an intermediate point when onward travel does not take place on the same calendar day; and
(b) for all other Itineraries, including those containing a domestic to international connecting flight, means when a passenger arrives at an intermediate point and is not scheduled to depart within 24 hours of arrival;

Attempted to secure 2 J seats on QF74 for July 21. ExpertFlyer was showing J9 C9 D5 I2. Decided to give them a call since we were dealing with positive I inventory and it would be nice to travel back to Australia in J nonstop from SYD versus flying coach via LAX. Short story long, the request was rejected.

I'm curious if things could change further down the line (i.e. as we get closer to departure date). For instance, suppose that flight remains J9 C9 10 days out and now it shows I9 (or a high I number) would that impact the odds the computer would accept the request?

thats a typical 'NFG' response from the first 3 phone call attempts ... isn't it frustrating
