QFF Platinum requesting release of extra Classic Reward seats?

I'll be soon looking for J flight from USA to Australia in April next year after school holidays wrap, ideally BNE. If I can get a flight to MEL or SYD, did I read that a domestic flight can be requested at no extra points? Is it best to start requesting a release at the earliest possible date, as in 353 days out?
Best to request as far out as possible, however the points depends on your carrier/s used and the trip distance:

If using QF/AA, the first table applies in each mileage band. eg LAX-MEL is zone 8, but LAX-MEL-BNE is zone 9. LAX-SYD-BNE is zone 8.
Use gcmap.com to calculate distances.
If using another partner like Alaska, you have to use the 3rd table for the partner component of the trip, in addition to the QF component.

Sep 5 QF35 I3 Denied
Sep 5 QF37 I7 Denied
Nov 27 QF35 I6 Denied
Nov 27 QF37 I9 Approved U x2

HBA agent was pretty efficient about it. I did tell him if the dates didn't work I'd take a guaranteed MEL - CGK flight too.

How are you all getting Hobart-based agents 😭
I waited about 10mins then he also looked over the latest OWA changes with AA. Before I gave him the dates.

PS. That MEL - SIN flight is for the same event I bumped into you at the QR lounge at SIN last Nov too if you want some dates.

Forgive me, I am still fairly new to WP status. Something just occurred to me today, can we request the release of First class reward seats? I don't think I have seen that mentioned here.

If so has anyone ever been successful for first on QF1/ QF2? I imagine it would be incredibly rare if even possible?

Yes you can and yes I have been successful for QF1/2.

I booked 2 seats on BA15 but later decided I'd prefer QF F (although these are two of my least favourite F products).

Called at least 10 times over two weeks until I finally got a HBA agent. He tried to warn me QF1 is almost always a no. Shockingly, got 2 F seats in July!

Is the availability of a Classic Plus seat an indicator that a Classic Reward seat can be successfully released?

No

From our searches, it appears Classic Plus maps to some of these Qantas fare classes (the list is not exhaustive):
  • First: A
  • Business: D, I
  • Premium Economy: R, T
  • Economy: N, S

This is different to the fare classes listed here

Was this all the way through to LHR or just SYD-SIN ?

Hi all,

Having booked (and completed) a OWA in business (for 2 people) in 2023 and earlier this year, I'm now in the planning stages for the hat trick in 2025 :P

Aiming to fly into and out of North America - given how hard it is to find CR seats nowadays, I'm thinking the previous way I did this with the multi city tool will be nigh on impossible in one hit. As such, was thinking of requesting a seat release for the outbound (ideally something like PER-DFW) and inward journeys (ideally LAX-PER) separately. I appreciate my odds are low but I figured I might as well give it a try.

I'm planning for May/June next year. Previously, I believe reward seats were released 353 days in advance for WP members - though my understanding is that this pattern no longer applies in most scenarios. As such, if I wanted to request a manual release, do I still need to wait until 353 days out? Or can I call even earlier at e.g. 365 days in advance? I appreciate it's not a huge difference but I'm trying to get in as early as possible !!

Thanks in advance!

for a two way trip, is it better to try booking both separately or having both trips on the same booking ?

Usually better to book two-way awards separately unless the:

- Origin city reduces fuel surcharges on return leg significantly
- Mileage cap means you pay fewer points (e.g. OWA)
- Your return flight is 24-48 hours after your outbound and you want protection from misconnecting
