QFF Platinum requesting release of extra Classic Reward seats?

Got some domestic seats released for travel in June, but towards end of conversation the agent indicated that there would be a service fee of 4800 points. I said that this is incorrect as we were completing a transaction that could not be done online. She then said I could do it online, somehow finish the request booking by entering my credit card online - which I am sure you cannot and would be stretching Qantas IT...

She relinquished and said that she would waive the fee as an exception on this one occasion.

I said I had done 20+ requests over 3 years and never been asked for a fee.

I was charged a fee for one of three bookings made on a call during the DSC promo. It took multiple calls to get it refunded. There's seemingly a right way and a wrong way to ensure the fee is not charged.

I have never done what you have but certainly have been charged a 5000 points per pax fee for the release of business reward seats for a pre existing booking .

That would be in relation to a change fee for the existing bookkng rather than the seat release itself imo.

Attempts today to have U seats released for
4 march 2025 LAX-BNE Biz Sale fare available I9 - rejected
5 March 2025 LAX-BNE Biz Sale fare available I9 - rejected
Interestingly, I have made some attempts at reward seat releases in the last month or so with limited success. I have noted success comes more easily with what appears to be a competent Hobart agent vs someone from elsewhere .Maybe part of the problem is that I find it hard to understand what some non Hobart agents are actually saying and vv.
To be fair , I do speak quickly !

Never been charged phone booking fee for Award release requests.
I've had it happen a few times even with Hobart. Sometimes they simply forget to apply the fee waiver. Never a big issue to get it fixed. Each time I've called reservations they've said "well that shouldn't have been charged" and had it reversed.

20/05/24 J9 C9 D9 I9 Denied
21/05/24 J9 C9 D9 I9 Confirmed

Looks like booking mid week (Tue/Wed) was a good call!
Oh something probably worth mentioning!

I actually ended up speaking to multiple reps for this. The first person was really nice and put the multiple requests in on the same PNR but said both came back declined - he provided the PNR to me so I could try again later.

I happened to open up the PNR online just after hanging up to see it and noticed the second date had changed from Pending to Confirmed. This prompted me to call back and the second person I talked to indeed confirmed the successful release.

Might be worth getting the PNR if checking multiple dates, incase they make a (likely honest) mistake like this.

Agent probably got a rejection confused with "no response yet"

Ah this might be it then! Weird~

On another note, 2 hours have passed and points haven’t been deducted and no eticket yet. Card was charged straight away though. Do these release seats usually take time to ticket/deduct in peoples experience?

Does the PNR appear in your MMB?

If so, check your APIS is there. A minimum of DoB is required for ticketing.

I can't help. I've never been able to get a reward seat released. 😂

I'll be soon looking for J flight from USA to Australia in April next year after school holidays wrap, ideally BNE. If I can get a flight to MEL or SYD, did I read that a domestic flight can be requested at no extra points? Is it best to start requesting a release at the earliest possible date, as in 353 days out?
