QFF Platinum requesting release of extra Classic Reward seats?

Presently in the US on a 280K 35,000 miles run around and have just requested a business seat from JFK to LAX and was very surprised with the taxes that I paid for this 50,000 points EACH plus AUD$ 7.40 per person TOTAL (seven dollars and 40 cents), anyone have any ideas why they are so low, compared to say a MEL-SYD?

Row 11 is generally blocked off for airport use as its a bassinet row plus 11JK has a medical power point so may be needed by a pax.

-snip-

I guess all you can do is just go with the best option available to you now then review again closer to your time of departure.

the cabin is wide open for my booking (platinum), except for 11 JK. Sister in law as bronze is much more restricted. Definitely a case of no bad J seat, especially having scored 5 of them.

It's because there's only domestic taxes due and no YQ/YR can be charged on US domestics.

I had thought they could ... and some have tried ... but competition forced backtracking.

i.e. There is no regulation just commercial realities.

I've had some phone agents allocate better seating for bronze family members on different bookings on the same flight as me. It's worth asking, though YMMV.

I second this. I have flown with family members who the phone agents have helpfully placed together in Row 4 (1st row Economy) on Jetconnect because one member of the travelling party was platinum. No harm done in asking.

We've settled on 15ABJK and 16K. I think we'll be happy with that, even if I'm in-deciding between the upper deck and the front section.

I need to buy a lottery ticket!

Today I requested 4 x J for QF 27/28 with BNE bookends (BNE-SYD-SCL-SYD-BNE) outbound late OCT, inbound early NOV ... dates needed to be pretty precise as it aligns with our very first cruise!. As you would expect the answer was NO....

However, the lovely lady said we could do 2 x J and 2 x PE :mrgreen::mrgreen: Perfect!

Thank You Qantas!

A good lesson for the kiddies in that they can't always fly J so they'll appreciate more when they do. :p

Pretty good outcome, considering the proximity that the booking is made in respect to
departure.

Enjoy the cruise.

In trying to get my 5 J BNE-LAX, one thing I did notice was they'd sell me 4xJ or 4xPE. In the end I booked an award for the 4xJ seats and then requested an extra J award for a single. The mechanics of the process was interesting. I was expecting the phone agent to put in 5x pax and request an extra seat. They didn't do that, instead requesting a single - the extra required. However, that actually took one of the already available 4xJ seats meaning I couldn't then book for the other 4 people. So I had to first book the 4 awards online to exhaust that supply, then process the request. There'd be no problem for the sister in law to revert back to PE. The end result would be the same either way, just wanted to note the different process.

When I did the flights to AKL last year they processed the request in a block of 5. Rather than piecemeal. The request was rejected so then I locked in the 3 available awards and purchased Y seats for the other 2.

Sorry guys cant see an answer earlier - anyone know if a WP can call and ask if a JQ Caward seat can be released?

FYI I just tried to get a PER-DPS JQ flight released...told by the op that they cannot do it for JQ only Qantas and Qantaslink. (after she tried)

My daughter has just been accepted into a summer study program at Oxford next July. Only problem, they had to arrive at Heathrow in a 6 hour window in the middle of our winter holidays and then another 6 hour window to leave Paris in August. As she will only be 15yrs old then, there was no overnighting anywhere or long delays in strange places (middle east I am looking at you). It was only possible to get QF1 or an etihad flight on the way over and an emirates, etihad or cathay flight on the way back, to meet the arrival and departure windows. Only the Etihad flights on the way over had award space but neither Velocity or American could see them and they could only see 1 etihad flight on the way back. No Oneworld flights available.

I rang the WP line and requested flights on QF1, which were rejected, which she turned over to manual checking. Called back this afternoon and they had F seats on QF1 and had also organised a J seat on the cathay flight CDG-HKG where the previously wasn't a seat. To connect to the next HKG-BNE flight with an available J seat, there is a 14hr wait in HKG, but as she is a WP as well, she will just sit it out in the Pier (pretty awesome place to spend 14hrs). Very spoilt girl but knowing she is safe and where she needs to be when she needs to be is worth it.

As a datapoint, QF wanted $3106 to do QF1 over and back in Y and would still have to add $114 for the CDG-LHR flight. Could save about $500 doing it on EK but no upgrade possibility.

Can a 15 year old get into the Pier alone ?
My kids got vouchers at LAX and LHR when they were too young to access the lounge despite eligible class of service.

Good outcome BTW !!

My daughter has never been allowed into DL lounge as under 21. One of her missions now is to get in before she turns 21 which is 3 years away.

*A lounge at TBIT has never been a problem.

I will have to double check. She has done LAX QF F a few times by herself so I never thought about. Thanks for pointing it out PF.

She's very lucky. My daughters were given vouchers for TBIT at LAX QF check-in in January this year as nobody under 21 allowed in the lounges without an adult.
