QFF Platinum requesting release of extra Classic Reward seats?

Any chances of getting 1 seat in J released for QF9/10 in the middle of next year? The cost is a bit steep to buy multiple J fares so would prefer to get one on points or perhaps a F seat if a J one is not available. I would go on a revenue fare, but one of the others rarely travels alone so doesn't need status.

Reasonable.
9/10 are easier than 1/2. Pick a midweek departure with I9 and I'd say that's a pretty good bet.

How you will navigate the lottery of the "premium" call desk agents and their ability and/or willingness to put this request through manually is another matter though.

Good Luck and let us know how you get on :)

Thanks for the suggestions. A mid-week departure would not be ideal but if that's all one can get...

To get the premium desk, I understand you need to ring during business hours? So it would be best to ask for a seat release during business hours?

A seat release is probably not considered "complex" by any means, but I have done it several times after hours with immediate success. Each to their own.

It's complex for the new "Premium" desk staff. Many of them are not premium. Those that are, are more likely to be operating in hours. I know quite a few people who have failed recently at getting the call Centre to even request a seat release or understand what that is.

After reading through this thread I tried (for the first time) to get two seats in J BKK-SYD for May 2017. Unsuccessful - was told they'd reached the maximum allocation already. I asked about a manual review and they said they usually only do that for P1 or CL. The agent tried to be helpful, offering to search alternative dates, but I needed them on a specific day.

In the end I just booked revenue fares (in Y) taking advantage of the SE Asia sale that ended yesterday.

Well seeing how you booked but...should have HUACA as the premium desk has an ongoing request for me as a platinum, 2 J seats SIN-PER and even given it a booking ref. Check every few days to see if seats released. Only 4 J seats sold at the moment and 4 in 'I' still available so here's hoping.

Having since paid for a cash fare (nonrefundable), the tightwad in me doesn't want to lose the fare of those return legs, fork out points for the redemption and also have to pay taxes
I'll give it up as a lost cause and find another use for the points next time, latest enhancement notwithstanding. The agent did suggest trying again in a couple of weeks but I'm not hell-bent on upgrading to J this time.

Was able to get 1 x F seat released for SYD-DFW for Dec 17... brings the family total on BNE-SYD-DFW flights to 2 x J > J and 2 x J > F.

If you've got a stack of points - it pays to retain Plat status for this benefit alone. We'll be coming home LAX-BNE in J .... won't need to get anything released on that sector.

Ok thanks. I am waiting for the exact same routing for Dec 15 2017. So just wanted to make sure I wasnt missing out. also did you manage to get 4 X J on LAX BNE on what dates?

Make sure you're set up ready to go by 10am BNE time.

Our trip will be 5 weeks (Mexico/Texas/LA), so I've got a while to go. Getting seats on that sector is pretty easy, so I'm pretty confident.

Thanks for the info. Might run into you in houston.

It was poor form not to welcome your first post... took awhile:D

Best of luck getting the seats - I'm sure it will work out ok. Not so much Houston, we're keen on seeing San Antonio.

If you don't mind me asking how old are your kids that they are happy to travel by themselves on a 15 hour flight?

No Worries.

By the time this trip comes around the oldest will be 17 and the youngest approaching 15. We did the first family (split) test flight earlier this year CX CDG-HKG ... we were in F and the kids in J. Prior to that the kids have traveled with us in the same class.

They still get some F loving ... in a couple of days we're heading to Asia for a couple of weeks with a return SYD-SIN BA F for all of us.
