QFF Platinum requesting release of extra Classic Reward seats?

It's a route that gets high paid traffic (I believe conference type traffic) and yet a lack of number of seats.
I noticed about 1 month ago that a return J on QF3/4 in July this year was pricing > $7k
JQ was about half that.
For a 10 hour might as well go Y
(For a Wedding)

Routing via North Asia was about $1k cheaper in J

Does the HNL route from OZ have any unique peak dates?

J does have seasonality for HNL for paid fares - basically the school holidays.

For awards the best way to get there is via Tokyo on QF/JL then JL.

I also wonder if the request being made for a family member booking rather than the P1 travelling may have been a factor to?

As I posted a week or two back I was able to get a request in on flight showing D6 (I0) but it never cleared which suggests yes there's going to be a threshold that they will allow the request for a P1 in this situation, but it doesn't follow it would clear.

I found another way home so cancelled that particular request a few days later and it had not cleared at that point.

Hmmm, just unsuccessful in my first request to release a business class reward seat. I'm wanting to move a SYD-YVR classic reward booking to two days later on the same flight number (QF75, 28-Jul). I can see there is substantial availability with 9s everywhere and I9, but was knocked back. How would I plead my case, given that I'm releasing one J seat for another?

Dark Arts unfortunately. Hard to know why that is the case. However I’m sure the criteria for converting an I to a U is more than just the availability of I.

One possibility is that it’s a Saturday flight that you want to swop to

Hi All - does anyone know the rhyme or reason behind getting these "approved" by yield management analysts?

I am after an international seat J award seat and am told I class is needed.

There is I class.

I have phoned a number of times.

The Auckland "Premium Desk" send of a message to yield management (or as they call them the analysts) requesting a seat.

The Hobart "Premium Desk" do an instant check thing which comes back instantly as a no.

Does anyone actually understand this system of Platinum requested business award seats?

I find it completely frustrating as it is not a true waitlist which can then clear over time but merely some sort of magic request system with no rules.

Have others had any experience with it?

"I" class availability is a prerequisite for the request to be sent to yield management. It's not a 100% guarantee that a seat will be released into "U" class. Frustrating, yes, but them's the rules.

It's not a waitslist sytem, unfortunately.

Does anyone know whether a request by a WP or WP1 to QF is able to get an award seat released on EK?

Possibly a chance if you're CL. Below that, no chance.

Thanks Danger for the EK reply on getting JohnM a seat that he deserves. If I was in charge I would get him one but alas I don’t have connections.

My question came out of a discussion @juddles and I were having. I see he has spotted the reply.

At present I have snared exactly what I wanted on EK from available choice.

I didn't really expect that the chances would be good - but it's always best to ask the AFF brains trust.

Just following this up. Still full availability (per EF) for the 28-Jul flight, so I made another request seven days ago. This time I was told it could take up to 48 hours. Since then it appears in the same booking alongside the original flights on 26-Jul, but with the Status "Requested". I've now contacted them twice, the first said she thought it was denied but wasn't sure, the second said it was still under request. Is this now entangled with their IT issues?

No thats normal. It’s a request and remains on the books. You can cancel the request and it will dissapear.

If initial request is unsuccessful then future attempts are unlikely to succeed

It won’t affect your origInal booking

Just turned platinum and had my first two requests approved!
F on QF1 SYD-LHR 25/26/27 JAN 2019 all came back yes.
J on QF62 NRT-BNE 27/28 FEB & 1 MAR 2019 27th & 28th came back yes 1st MAR came back no.

Requested around 8pm, did not go through straight away had to call back next morning to find out. However I checked the Qantas app early that morning and the 'on request' had been removed from the 5 flights that came back yes.

Did you check Expert Flyer beforehand to see if there was availability in I class for the J request and whatever the equivalent in F is (A?). That is to say, did your successes correlate exactly with availability and the failure with no availability of the relevant 'release' classes?

I had been watching it months earlier but did not check it before requesting. When I checked it months ago expert flyer was showing 9 available in first for most days except for one as i recall.
Sorry, probably not that helpful.
