QFF Platinum requesting release of extra Classic Reward seats?

about 2 months out SYD-SFO with inventory looking like this J9 C9 D9 I9. What do you reckon my chances are?

Doesn't really matter what anyone here thinks, as has been stated many times previously: Qantas Revenue Management is a Dark Art you try to second-guess at your peril. Suggest you call the Platinum Line and see what Qantas think your chances are.

We have premium award seats on a flight from Honolulu to Sydney in August.A few months ago,as my husband is a Platinum member and I am Gold,we rang and asked for seats to be released in business and got told no on 3 occasions.
As there are still seats available in business,should we call and ask again?
We rang the premium line

There's no harm in calling and requesting. Every day is a different day and the computer may say yes one day assuming there is sufficient inventory within the required fare bucket.
 
Platinums and above can request for award seats to be released for anyone who is an eligible family member. It is not a requirement for the member to be travelling on the booking where the request is being made.

I can also confirm this - have done it many times as a WP1
 
As a WP, I have been able to successfully (more than once) convert an I fare to a U fare for a family member not travelling with me.
They do ask you if you (the WP) is travelling with the family member. I am not sure How the answer affects your prospects..

As WP You need to request from available "I" fares. I have not been able to successfully convert a D (business saver) fare into a U (business award) fare


I would also not go complaining to the airline about this as this is a WP unwritten benefit, and so is totally in the gift of the airline.

As you already have premium economy award (Z) seats, it is very unlikely that they will also then grant you business award (U) fares. This is because you are effectively requesting an upgrade and there is already an avenue for upgrading Z to U fares called "Qantas Classic Upgrade Rewards". Will cost 40000 points each if successful for a HNL-SYD sector.

Again the fact there are still seats in J means very little in terms of Z to U upgrade availability.
Whats more important in your case is the length of the queue in front of you from other passengers requesting the same and how premium those passengers are and how premium their tickets are. For example, a paid premium econ "T(sale),R(saver),W(flex) fares" will always trump a premium econ "Z(award)" fare.

(Or are you looking for SYD-HNL award having already got HNL-SYD award fares?)

HNL-SYD is very very VERY difficult to get seats in J. I think it highly unlikely. However it never hurts to keep trying - they can only say no.

The other option is to put in for a points upgrade from the Z fare to the U seat right up to the gate which may or may not yield some joy.
 
Been on the phone daily to Qantas for the last 7 days trying to get QF9 MEL-PER approved in any cabin in a weeks time. After a huge run-around, the answer was no. Now on QF769 a couple hours earlier, but will keep trying for QF9.
 
Posted upthread a while back, but I got an I seat released on QF9 MEL-PER in December coming - much to my surprise, so it can happen.

Been on the phone daily to Qantas for the last 7 days trying to get QF9 MEL-PER approved in any cabin in a weeks time. After a huge run-around, the answer was no. Now on QF769 a couple hours earlier, but will keep trying for QF9.
While HUACA can sometimes yield a different answer, I believe that persistent HUACA will not eventually lead to the answer you want. I think in your case the answer will not change. Maybe try a different day or different route.

One of the potential downsides of pushing requests to the limit is that the airline might just close it down for WP. They do keep notes on your previous attempts. Use this unwritten benefit wisely.

I was on paid Y+ two weeks ago and had asked for a points upgrade to J. There was 11 unallocated seats showing on EF consistently, and as a WP I was hopeful for success. Success did arrive 24 hours out, but I was confused given the amount of spots shown as open. Both J and Y+ were full for the actual flight.

Unallocated on EF probably means seat selection not yet done by pax.

The number of unallocated seats showing on EF is no indication of the bookings level.

What was your original fare class?

T, R, W?

But generally this thread is about passengers requesting the release of classic award seats where none is available on the QF website, rather than an points upgrade. The relevant thread about upgrade possibility is Flight Availability/Loadings & Upgrade Probability Help Desk

First positive experience with attempting to get seats released as a WP - 2 x J seats released on PER-LHR in January next year, was showing J9 C9 D7 I6 on ExpertFlyer.

Well done. When you say "First positive experience...", are you implying previous rejections?

In theory, the I6 was indicative that you would have success.
