QFF Platinum requesting release of extra Classic Reward seats?

I'm looking to travel to DFW in Sept next year and have been tracking the awards waiting for my dates to open up but it looks like they've stopped (or severely curtailed) the release of J seats SYD-DFW from 1 Sept. Anyone like to rate my chances if I ring once they release my dates or am I better off giving it a few months?

I'm looking to travel a few weeks away from school holidays so I thought I'd be pretty safe... :(

Unlike with a lot of other things, Qantas doesn't charge you to request a seat to be released, so there's no harm in ringing up the day they are released, the day after, the week after, next month etc.

I can see J and F seats on Sep 1 and Sep 6 out to DFW.... (but looking for 1 pax)

Yep, there are two for 10 Sep (system range) today but I need a third. Fingers crossed it's just a blip! Requesting 1 seat released is a lot easier than needing 2 more anyway...

Better off requesting earlier while the inventory is there.

I agree. redeem the two seats, request anothe rnow. the longer you wait (except maybe last minute) the more likely seats will be sold and potentially harder it will be.

I'm trying to find a reward seat (just one) in mid Jan from USA to Australia (preferably SYD). I'll take Y but would prefer J.

No direct flights on the dates I want. However, when I changed the search to LAX-HKG (as there are J seats with CX HKG-SYD), Qantas offers me LAX-BNE-HKG all on Qantas J. But it won't offer me QF16 (LAX-BNE) on a stand alone award booking. Very weird.

I'm WP, I can see there is 1xI seat left (J9 C9 D9 I1 U0). Is it worth calling up to see if they can release the seat? Seems likely if they'll offer it as a connection.

If it is a flight that works for you, give QF a call. If you do not ask you will never know.

Does it show anything different if you try Multi-city from LAX-BNE and then say BNE-SYD?

no, multi city, or any other Australian connection showed no flights.

I called up, they let me book it. Definitely some gremlins, she couldn’t understand it (only when I told her to try booking LAX-HKG she understood and let me book it). Then she couldn’t add BNE-NTL, computer said no, even though it showed up for separate bookings. Had to call the supervisor in.

As P1

Requested LAX-MEL in F for mid November (showing F7 A5) was knocked back (they gave J). DFW-SYD-MEL (F9 A5) was approved instantly.

Requested the LAX-MEL go to SST for manual approval and will see how that pans out).

Also phone answered in around 15 seconds.
(Stats DOES help!)

... and my LAX-MEL was declined, even though it shows more avail than the DFW-SYD did.

So there you go, P1's don't always get it their way :D

RM, with me being a relative noob P1 (since mid Aug), do you request through the SST or the premium res number for release of seats?

I just call res and they do it but some people contact the SST I think. Same difference really.

When my LAX-MEL was put on request the res agent (who was very good imo) popped it through to the SST for manual review(at least that's what he said). When I called back a few days later the agent I spoke to indicated the SST did have a note on the booking request.

Well done! I do not believe that there is any assistance fee for this service.
