QFF Platinum requesting release of extra Classic Reward seats?

Has anyone recently had success or otherwise having rewards seats opened ? Currently I am still platinum but hoping I can get a business class released in Nov for Syd to LAX..days surrounding the date I want have quite a bit of space .

Seems pretty easy at the moment. Have had them released on a few different AU-US/US-AU flights in the last week but all for March/April sort of time frame.

Apologies but I have asked this question somewhere in the past but its lost in my memory.
Has anyone had the experience where a WP successfully requests that a revenue seat be converted to a "u" to allow for an Australian domestic upgrade from a paid economy seat ?
I would like to sit next to my wife who has already been upgraded - don't ask me the whole story - but a large QF computer glitch occurred!
EF currently shows D8 I7 for that flight.

Are you sure that there are no U?

EF has a glitch where it does not show U under 'Flight Availability' (but it does show X).

You need to check for U under 'Awards & Upgrades'.

John,
I initially booked 2 economy seats ( on separate PNRs) SYD-HBA when I could see 2 "u" seats on the QFF ( and indeed the EF site) .
Once the confirmation email came thru , I requested upgrades and rechecked and the 2 "u" s were still on QFF.
Nil happened for 24 hours .
I rang QFF ( in AKL the lady said ) .She told me that there was a glitch and the upgraded seats would be released soon !
I asked for her supervisor confirm that and she came back and said she was told she could do the upgrade manually .
She did mine first and it took 10 minutes and by the time my wife's turn , the second "u" seat had disappeared!
I was running out of time so just accepted that position and am going to ring tomorrow when I hope to get Hobart .
Even being a platinum( we both are) a call can take up to 60 minutes to complete even for the simplest request .
So I'm ringing tomorrow to see if an additional "u" seat can be released.
I don't know if it can happen but I try to know ahead of time what the likely options on offer are before I ring.
Hence my request above.

I wanted to request release of J seats for some friends to travel SYD-FCO. The platinum member does not need to be flying correct?

You can request seats for a family member from your account. You do not need to be flying.

EDIT: the points need to come from your account to book the seats also.

SYD-FCO you mean via PER when QF operates it?

otherwise you can't request release for partners and getting to FCO currently is going to involve some combination of partners (eg BA LHR-FCO). Only QF sectors.

Can we book award, let alone request seat release, for friends? I thought it was limited to family members.

Successfully requested release for 2x Y seats for SYD-BKK return, one J released on return but I needed two.

On a side note, if I requested a points upgrade from a Y award and it goes through a few days before check in, can I just cancel it and request for that J seat to be booked as an award instead? Would save me some points. Thanks!

No. Classic reward seat release requests would be unsuccessful that close to a flight.

I have OWA flights back from Europe june and september this year.
Currently coming back via complicated connections via HND and HKG respectively .
I rang unsuccessfully friday to request freeing up of seats LHR - SIN or LHR-SYD to get to BNE. All options had 9 x "i" seats available and the agent tried unsuccessfully.
The agent told me that you need a "J" seat to be available for conversion to be on the cards .
Has anyone heard of this ?
I was under the impression that it was the "i" class seats that gave you the best chance - I accept there are many other variables as well .

If you are Platinum requesting seats it’s I class that needs to be available.
I have no idea what the Agent is talking about.
Presumably neither does he/she.
