Good luck that time of year ex Oz!Didn't end up booking anything, will keep an eye out for cash fares.
I'm always flying out around that time of year, not had to pay anything more then $4.5k to SE Asia yet. This year's looking like $5.2k to $6k though.Good luck that time of year ex Oz!
No Y seats could be released in QF27 for entire month of March. Pretty disappointing.Worth a call, but some dates are a definite no

This was discussed elsewhere but you shouldn't have a problem finding economy and business class seats down to Santiago in March. To make a long story short, what is happening now is LATAM (Qantas' main classic awards partner for Santiago) is sporadically adding economy and business classic availability like once a month (I'm finding around the middle of the month so maybe check on Saturday) and then taking it all away a day or two later. You certainly need to be on your toes to find it but it does crop up and the availability is very nice. For instance, last month when availability popped up on the 15th, I was able to get my brother-in-law, sister-in law and mother-in-law all booked into LATAM business flying Sydney to Santiago, and even managed them to get all the way to Porto Alegre, Brazil (albeit with that last domestic sector in economy) for mid March without issues.Mr SS junior needs a one way SYD - SCL on QF27 in the 7 days or so from March 4. Y is fine. Mrs SS (WP) is not in a position to call at the moment and request a CR seat. There is plenty of C+. Is anyone able to guess if a request for CR is likely to be successful on any of those dates?
Do you have any latitude flying to FCO or CDG? The reason I ask is there may be more availability there. Additionally for PER-FCO specifically it falls in the mileage band that only attracts 108,400 points when flying business. The last PER-FCO is scheduled for 2/10/2025 but I suspect you should be able to find something out of CDG on the way back. Oh and by the way flying out of CDG instead of LHR means you’ll save a couple hundred quid on Air Passneger Duty, a fee Qantas passes on to customers for some reasonPER-LHR

One thing to consider: it’s true that Qantas can only open up award seats for Qantas operated flights. However, there is nothing stopping you from tacking on another award segment if there is availability on a partner. For instance if they find Perth to Paris or Perth to Rome, and there also happens to be British Airways availability to Heathrow they can add that sector on so that your itinerary will be Perth to London connecting in Rome/ParisGood shout. I'll consider CDG and fly to LHR after.
Great to hear you got a seat released for the international sector to LHR. I take it that you were able to get a normal flight in business to PER (I.e. one taking off from the domestic terminal rather than the international terminal)? If so what you could try doing on that day of travel is head to the international terminal and see if an agent at First check in can move you onto QF33. I say this from experience as I was in the same situation as you, I wanted QF9 from MEL to PER but the bot would never release it. Showed up early for the flight and got the First agent to move myself and partner onto QF9. Obviously this will depend on load volumes on the day of departure so no guarantees. But it could potentially make your travel experience better since you’ll only have to clear security once plus you’ll have the benefit of the Sydney First lounge in addition to whatever lounge they got at PER.I did end up getting QF9 on a day with I9 but I tried to get QF33, on the same day as a domestic connection but the bot said no and the supervisor couldn't force it either as it's considered a international segment.
All in all, it's a decent outcome.

It's actually not the first time I heard this "domestic leg guaranteed" on the phone.

For international seat release bookings, where the domestic connection is knocked back by the robot...
The written policy is that the domestic connection can be manually forced in as long as C class is available for J, or S class is available for Y, on the domestic on a standalone basis (eg. looking at just SYD-MEL separately as if it were a new commercial booking).
The agent needs to call a team coach to have this done. Regular agents don't have the access to do it.
