BKK-KUL is only 749 miles so only 40 SCs in business.

I'm not sure where that figure comes from.
According to the MH booking engine it is 777 miles.

According to a third party site it is 760 miles.
Either puts it in the 751-1500 category which earns 60 SCs in business.

A court might disagree in a misleading and deceptive conduct claim.
It's pretty appalling that Qantas appear to have arbitrarily adopted a false distance in order to place it in a lower category.
Certainly not simpler or fairer, and probably unlawful.

Thank you all for your comments! got some really useful information. I'll just hang off until my big trip overseas to get there

It easily fell into Zone 2 under the old table. Collateral damage with the new changes.

And for some reason I got all excited with a recent BKK-KUL-SIN booking in business.

For some reason I thought I was going to get 200 SCs and was excited. Then reality set in and I only received 80 SCs. Should be 120 SCs as I have to do a Original routing credit claim flying an MH codeshare on a TG flight after flights were cancelled and stuffed around.

BKK-KUL is only 749 miles and KUL-SIN is only 201 miles with is <250 so only 20 SCs in business.

Best run I found was SYD-SIN business class.... but that sure comes with a hefty price tag.

So you are thinking about flyng to Singapore in business class just (literally) for kicks yet you are happy - when it comes to the "real" holiday - to slum it in economy and be a Silver frequent flyer.

Some people love status and are happy to fly economy and be a Platinum or what not, some people rather like being a nobody flyer confirmed flying never in economy class.
