QFs inflight entertainment system the worlds best ?

Well they probably were among the best when they launched and a lot of other airlines still had movies on a loop :)

Yes, first mover problem is that - as a result - you have to wait for payout of initial investment while latest and greatest release. And usually first round technology comes with a significant cost compared to later releases of the same product - making it a longer cycle for investment recoupage.

Just about to take off on qf439 am on the Hawaii 767 in J and strange to see there's no iPads for Q streaming? Did they not upgrade the plane? Asked the attendant and she said not available on this plane - what do people do all the way across to Hawaii?!?!

One of the International configs skipped it for some reason, while one of the those converted is now in the desert, go figure why?

IMHO, it's hardly the worlds best, and it's hardly a consistent experience either. That said, it's a long long way from the bottom of the list, and in marketing speak been anything other than last in a category = automatic gold medal.

would this plane at least give iPads out like jetstar use when it's flying to Hawaii?? As if no sky bed wasn't bad enough I thought this plane would have entertainment at least! Now I'm starting to truly realise the hate of the Hawaii flights.

I wouldn't say it's world's best. They may have a good system, but the content is quite poor and limited, hence uninteresting. I couldn't even get enough entertainment for my return flight to LAX (~20hrs). Compared to CX and SQ in J, not even close (I spent 40+ hours in CX J couple of months back, and couldn't even watch all movies/tv series I wanted to). Also, on my last flight on SQ, the IFE actually carry movies that is still playing in cinemas in Australia. On QF, new movies usually show up a good few months past the premiere date.

In a word, no- the latest versions are well overtaken already by the likes of cx, sq and ek

I have noticed this for as long as I can remember but it seems that Qantas considers that its inflight entertainment system is the worlds best.
It has this written on the home screen once you turn on the TV. I've noticed it on some domestic flights and also the 333 on SYD/CGK, MEL/SIN and SYD/SIN.

Is there even a single person that agrees with this lol ?
Or has it been proven through some Skytrax poll like the other "worlds best" categories etc ?

Cheers.

Think you will find when they (well actually the people who give out these 'awards') say worlds best they are refering to the content rather than the delivery system. Having flown many airlines I think content wise Qantas is the best.

There is no way that QF's IFE content is better than EK or SQ. I understand it's an objective opinion that you're entitled to. But I think you're wrong every day of the week.

I think your wrong everyday of the week, especially compared to EK. Specificaly I reckon Qantas has a much better variety.

So the fact that EK has won the Skytrax (shudders) IFE award 9 years running makes my point for me?

As you said it an objective opinion though of course I think you really meant subjective.

That said EK may well have won awards for their IFE but so too has Qantas.

So shall we argue over which award is the better or maybe just accept that perception is subjective.

In any case as mention the awards Qantas have won are for content not the delivery platform.

Just because EK might have MORE movies doesn't mean that qantas isn't delivering a more interesting package of options

Sorry, I did mean subjective. QF do have a great selection. I just believe that the overall package is better on EK (would rather fly QF though, IFE isn't a main concern).

What QF will provide is more Australian relevant content, EK spans a much broader audience.

See I would have said the opposite. From my experience EK provides what I would call generic international content (read standard American sitcoms, docos, movies), whereas Qantas has a lot more genuine variety as well as special interest Australian content too of course.

EK has a large selection of Bollywood movies which suits one of their major customer demographics. I'd also suspect their other Arabic and International movie selection is much better than Qantas. QF is suited to you and most other Australians, but their focus is on an English speaking nation. Is the QF IFE content good? Undoubtedly. Is it the best for you? Obviously you think so. Is it the best for everyone in the world? I don't think so.

They (along with EK) have won awards that say different. Also Qantas has foreign content to suits the various routes they fly.

I accept that. Do I think we will agree on this issue as it stands, no. But this is the ever changing world of aviation so it could all be different in 6 months anyway.
