QR returning to CBR

Just received an updated from Qantas that QR989 will leave the same time from CBR, but arrive in DOH 5 minutes earlier?? Flight is in July.

I just got the same 5 minute earlier arrival message too. I am flying in mid June.

Returning to CBR in April works for me. I guess that is when the demand starts for trips to Europe.

No my flight was DOH-CBR and is now DOH-MEL which suits me much better as I’m from Melbourne. My flight is Jan 12th so they might not have got to your flight yet.

When I received the change notification I went into the app to confirm as requested but there was no option to confirm it just said call Qantas. I rang last night and they accepted the change for me. It’s showing in my bookings now but I still do not have a new ticket so looks like I’ll be calling again.
Did you get the ticket ?

This is an FYI for my experience.

I had a Doha > Melbourne > Canberra > Melbourne > Adelaide Flight booked for Feb 5th 2023.

Upon checking my booking reference on Qatar and Qantas websites it indicated QR988 Doha > Canberra CANCELLED New Time 15 mins later Doha Departure Doha > Melbourne QR988.

I called to fix this and they had to "accept" the new flight, luckily for me this actually simplifies my routing Doha > Mel > Adelaide.

But if you have a ticket booked on Doha > Canberra Call Qantas if a Reward Flight or Qatar if its a cash flight ASAP.

You shouldn't lose your Doha > Mel as this is "auto changed" but still needs to be accepted and if your end destination is Canberra you need to add a new flight.
I have had this happen too. Now I need to pay to get my family from Canberra to Melbourne (in the Christmas period) and overnight in Melbourne on the way home as the flight from DOHA gets in at 11.30pm. Surely if you pay to fly CBR>DOH>LHR and return they need to get you from Canberra to Melbourne without having to fork out extra $$ ?

I would have thought you would have a point with this with Qantas or Qatar depending on who you booked with. Worth perusing I’d say.

You should push them.to book for cbr -mel leg as ur booking was originally from cbr not mel. We were told the same thing and at the end they do book us for this lwg with virgin airways.

Yes definitely. I had this happen in October when Qatar was meant to start flying and on my return leg the Canberra part was cancelled. I booked through Qantas and no matter how many people I called I was told that I would need to find my own way from Melbourne to Canberra (after the plane landed at midnight!). Eventually I found someone who offered to hold a morning flight to Canberra for me while I thought about it but insisted I would have to pay for it. Eventually I just rocked up to the airport without paying since it was still appearing as confirmed on my itinerary. At the airport they gave me the boarding pass for that flight as well. I think you need to keep pushing because they should definitely be obligated to get you there. I would also insist that they pay for accommodation in Melbourne. Qantas claimed that I would have to book it myself and apply for a refund after. Not holding my breath on that one.

We have flights booked next April returning in May. Our flights still show as confirmed but when you try a dummy booking they don’t appear - only options are Virgin and Qantas connections to Melbourne. Does not fill me with confidence!

Yeah, it looks like QR have "zeroed out" all the inventory to/from CBR.

So a word of warning to everyone who is going through this change with Qantas to get ticketed from Melbourne instead of Canberra despite calling Qantas to confirm I was accepting the change (would not allow me to accept in app or online) and calling 3 times to get the booking ticketed (DUB-DOH-MEL) has not disappeared from my app and I get an error when trying to add to my bookings.

Likely Qantas have not confirmed my change to Qatar and they've cancelled my flight - despite no communications - I've only found out by going into my app. So now stuck in Dublin with no return flight in January with no chance of finding another award seat. Currently on hold to Qantas but I know I will have no joy.

So I now have received a "time change" in respect of QF reward flight from CBR to OSL via DOH in July. Flight now commences from MEL instead of CBR. I presume best thing is to accept change online and then check ticket on Qatar airways site. Then book flight separately from CBR - MEL.

Was booked on QR989 ex CBR in late June next year and received the email from Qatar overnight about the flight now commencing from Melbourne. No skin off my nose, I live in Sydney and hadn't booked flights to Canberra yet.

Not so bad being “stuck” in Dublin, there’s worse places.

I’ll have a pint of Guinness with you when I get there… from CBR via a slightly more extended route with VA, SQ and EI.

Just like Notyourbag and jumpjam, this morning I received the notification from Qantas and Qatar that my QR989 from CBR is now changed to leave from MEL. Its a QFF Classis reward booking flying Mid June.

I am unable to "accept the change" via website or App, but both Qantas and Qatar websites show the flight is now from MEL.

I am not sure whether to call Qantas for the fear of them stuffing something up with my booking. So I just quickly booked a flight from CBR to MEL that morning.

Hopefully the change gets re-ticketed in the next 24 hours, so I don't need to call anyone, because we all know how much fun that can be.

I feel this may require a phone call. The new flight to accept is MEL-DOH but the DOH-FCO leg seems to have disappeared!

My advice would be to call to accept the change and keep calling until you receive the correct ticket. However as I have posted above this is what I did - I had the correct ticket (I even checked the ticket number on checkmytrip to ensure it was valid and it was). Then my booking fell off.

I've had a few calls with Qantas since. I also filled out the complaint form on Qantas's website. I don't know if the complaint form triggered it up I got a call from what I presume was someone in head office/Hobart as they seemed to know what they were doing! He assured me he would sort it out. He contacted Qatar and they admitted the issue is on their side but refused to fix it as they said their flights are full. He checked afterwards and found revenue flights available so he has requested the same flights again for me. He also requested DUB-LHR-SIN-MEL on BA/Qantas as a backup in case Qatar don't accept the request.

All in all excellent support from Qantas when I finally spoke to someone who knew what they were doing. Prior to this I had about 6 calls to the overseas call centres who were useless and most of my calls dropped anyway.

I'll definitely be having a pint or 2 whilst I am home!

So our flight to Europe in May was booked via Qantas FF and had no problem organizing a connecting Canberra to Melbourne flight for no extra charge (platinum FF not sure if that helped!).

Flight home was booked direct with Qatar and that was a nightmare. First online chat they said it does not qualify for a free flight change as flight arrives in melbourne at same time (say what!) They offered to book me via Sydney for an extra 800 Euros! Then said you can try changing it online to get a cheaper rate. Tried and said you can’t change it please commence a chat lol. Second chat was a lot better they saw my point of view about it being their problem to fix and they rebooked it with no extra charge. Though I did mention Australian Consumer Law lol.
